If your a natural mama like myself you might find the following useful :

Things you can do with vinegar

Deter ants. Spray vinegar around doors, appliances and along other areas where ants are. (Ive used it for mosquitos as well)

Polish crome, apply full strength

Remove skunk odor or other odor in dogs. Rub full strength vinegar and rinse

Keep cats away, sprinkle in areas you dont want your cat to be, scratching, sleeping climbing etc.

Keep dogs from scratching their ears. Use a clean cloth, dipped in vinegar and diluted in water.

Soothe a bee or jellyfish sting, dot the site with vinegar

Floor cleaner. Mix 1 cup white vinegar w/ 2 gallons hot water

Freshen wilted veggies, Soak in 2 cups water and a tbsp vinegar

Relieve sunburn. Lightly rub on vinegar (white), you may have to reapply

Condition hair (works great, I love it, and I have the thickest hair ever) Add tablespoon of vinegar or two depending on length to head after you shampoo, etc (I can go into detail if you want later)

Relieve dry and itchy skin add 2 tbsp to a bath

Fight dandruff (I have a recipe if you want it)

Soothe a sore throat pour tsp applecider vinegar in a glass of water, gargle then swallow

Treat sinus infections and chest colds, add 1/4 cup or more to vaporizer

Deodorize the kitchen sink drain. Pour one cup down the drain once a week let it stand about 30-40 mins then flush with cold water

Clean and disinfect wood cutting boards, wipe with full strength

Unglog a drain pour a handful of baking soda down the drain, add 1/2 cup vinegar and close w/plug for about 20 seconds or so rinse with very hot water

Clean and deordorize jars (now you can reuse them) Rinse mayonaise peanut butter and mustard etc when empty

Clean stainless steel

Remove stain from pots fill pot with solution 3 tbsp vin to pint of water boil until stain loosens

Clean eyeglasses (You wont even know you are wearing glasses after this one!)

Freshen cut flowers add 2 tbsp vin and teaspoon sugar for each liter of water

Extingush fires throw on grease to arrest flames

Clean clothes 4 tbsp per load add with detergent (my husbands a machanic and I have to get greasy stains out of his pants all the time this works very well!!)

I have more full things to give you if you can think of something you might want, I might have a natural recipe. I will try my best.
Hope this helps for now, we can all share what we have too, this will be fun!!

I had this same problem a month ago. I rented one of those carpet cleaner vaccums from a friend, and added vinegar to it, and lemon (fresh squeezes) too. It took the smell out and then I added more vinegar to the spot after it dryed and more lemon. Our cat never went back to the spot. Lemon, works well on a lot of cat things, they hate the smell, add that to vinegar and they will hate you... ha ha I know that stuff at the pet store doesnt work, and its expensive, I was so mad when I bought it....

sounds good. I've decided I'm done with trying to keep the carpets clean. I'm staining the cement under it and putting down throw rugs.

Thanks! I have a great book that includes a lot of what you have listed here called Organic Housekeeping. It is a lot easier to read your post, than to go through the entire book though!

I agree. I'm going to have to do some shopping though. Tx gets suprisingly cold in the winter. Not in the negatives but, I can only imagine what concrete floors is going to feel like in the winter. It's either stain the concrete now or wait just a few more months maybe a year and put down pergo. I've priced the staining acid and supplise at about 500.00. Pergo is going to run us about 3000.00. If between teh stain and rugs it's going to be a similar price, I'm just going to wait.

Its a good thing you mentioned the cold. I didnt think about that, and I dont know why. I live in Alaska, and it does get in the negs, so I have to make sure we dont get too cold if I do decide to rip the carpet out. My friend put floor heating in and replaced everything with hard word floors. It looks really nice and if you stand on a spot barefoot, your feet stay warm. Im sure that was really exspensive though since she has a lot of money. I dont so I have to see whats out there, your idea seems nice.
