Prayers definitely needed for a 5 year old little girl of a friend of mine. She had been having lots of problems with seizures and meds not helping her. Well, they took blood from her to test for a VERY rare disease called Alpers and it was gonna take like a month to get results. She got better and the dr's started thinking she did not seem to fit the Alpers pattern..well blood results came in and she has 2 mutations, therefore they diagnosed her officially with it. They told her mom if she had Alpers, she would not be alive for very long. I have not talked to her mom see what all they told her and where they go from here but before test results came in, they had told her it could mean only a few more months to live..she also has a little 3 year old and 1 year old little girl and bad thing is it could be a kind of genetic thing and they could possibly get this later on to..may end up keeping them from having anymore kids..please pray!

hi ladies, im new here so be gentle
little bit of background, i had my first son 3/3/07- induced with pre eclampsia but normal birth.he was 6lb 14oz
my second son, born 09/05/08 i went 2 weeks overdue, was told he was only little and i just had a lot of water and refused a growth scan, turned out he was a littleMichelinman and after a day of labour i wasnt progressing so had to have anemergencyc-sec   turns out he was 9lb 5oz and the reason for not being able to deliver was that he was just too big!

now im expecting again march 23rd, another little boy. and since having my second son ive always been adamant i do not wantanothercaesarean as the recovery was awful and it just wasnt as enjoyable as my first birth.
BUT now im expecting again and have spoken to midwifes etc, i will not be induced as its too risky so if i fail to go into labour naturally up to 42 weeks ill have to have a section anyway. then if i do go into labour myself he might be large again and ill have the same dilema as baby no.2.
theyre going to send me for a growth scan at 36weeks and if hes big then theyll advise an elective as the recovery will be easier thenhavingto go through labour and having an emergency c-sec.
AND to top it all of, as soon as labour begins or my waters break i have to go in to have an anti biotic drip again as ive got gbs
i feel so defeated iykwim.

I know exactly how you feel about not wanting to go through a long labor and then have to have the c-section anyway. I had a 26 hour labor, 20 of those on pitocin with no epi and ended up with an 'emergency' c-section. I considered just scheduling another section with my second because I didn't want to go through that again. I ended up successfully getting my VBAC and I'm so happy I tried. Even if I would have ended up with another section, at least I would know that I gave it my best shot for a natural birth. And, it's really not the big deal they make it out to be about the antibiotics with the GBS. I labored at home until my water was broken and I felt the urge to push. When I got to the hospital there was no time for the antibiotics and the dr told me it was super rare for a baby to have problems from the GBS. I actually read that it's more common for the baby to have a bad reaaction from the antibiotics than to get sick from the GBS. Remember that one in three women have GBS and the antibiotic reccomendation is pretty new. For decades GBS positive women were delivering babies with no antibiotics and very few babies had complications. IMO American medicine (ESPECIALLY obstetrics) has become more focused on the prevention of lawsuits than on good patient care.

yesh i can totally understand the going through it and having to have another as at least that way ive tried, although im skeptical i can even go into labour myself as ive been induced both times.lol. i guess quite selfishly if i had to choose between an emergency c-sec and an elective id go for the elective for the recovery time as im a single mummy and will be coming home to a 3yo, 22mo and a newborn not being able to do alot and not alot of family support.
will have to have a talk to my mw about the gbs side of things, with kyran (my second) i was in hospital to be induced anyway and so had the iv.
not sure if its different over here but theyre pretty big on the anti-b's for you, and if you dont get them, or for long enough, then they like you to stay in longer to observe baba and give them to baba if needs be.
i guess ive got a while to think about ti. and will be going to a vbac class to chat to other hopeful vbac mummys

Yeah, they're big on the antibiotics for GBS over here too...I've just done my own research on it. That's a good idea, taking a VBAC class...I didn't even know there was such a thing!

Hi welcome to BG. lol based on your first sentence I guess you've noticed that alot of girls here are kinda on the snooty side lol, but theres a lot of asome girls on here too. Just stick to people that you have alot in common with and you'll come to love it here. We're really nice in here, no drama, just support.

We just had a mom from the UK have a sucessfull VBAC on the 5th  . I feel silly for saying but I don't know what GBS stands for   but from what Tracy said it sounds like you should maybe do some research of your own and then when March comes around you can have the best birth experiance possible. I can never stress enough that the best way to have the birth you want, VBAC, natural, water, home, center, hospital, ex..., is to know as much about it as you can. That way if something happens you can call the shots totry and get back on track. Instead of leaving it all up to the doctor/midwife/nurse to decide whats the best route to take then wishing you'd done something different after.

I think its great that you found a VBAC support group in your area, I wish we had groups like that here. And if its alright, I'm gonna add you to our VBAC expecting moms in the OP.
