Vicodin during pregnancy.
posted 21st Jun
I was just wondering if some of you could share your personal experiences with me on vicodin (hydrocodone) during pregnancy. My ob prescribed me some for a tooth ache (they were 5/500 mg) and then about a week late my dentist prescribed me some for a tooth extraction (and those were 7.5/750 mg). I took somewhere between 4-6 pills a day for about 2 1/2 weeks (it was prescribed to take every 4-6 hours as needed). I did some research on this but cant find too much. However what I have read said that it is safe as long as your not near the end of your pregnancy (I'm 21 weeks along) and my ob has assured me that its safe. I'm still really nervous about it and was just wondering if some of you could share your personal experiences with me. No judgment please... thanks!

Its an opiate, which is safe in pregnancy *as long as prescribed of course* and opiates like nubane is what they give you in your IV for pain during labor.

i took some before i knew i was pregnant, because i had surgery.
my doctor didn't seem worried about it at all though, and they say my baby is healthy, so i think your fine

I personally would not have done unless I really was in massive amount of pain, but I also would not take tylenol either, so that is just me. I am sure your baby is fine but it is still a risk.

Honey you should befine! I had severly infected wisdom teeth (all four) when I was pregnant and I was put on Vicodin TWO seperate times for it. I had to have to oral surgery done with nothing more then local anesthetic too.
I took a half pill instead of a whole and I only took it when I absolutely couldn't stand the pain and couldn't sleep because of it. I spent a lot of time with my OB talking about it and everything turned out fine. He told me it is not uncommon to be prescribed Vicodine during a pregnancy for pain relief as it is a medication that canbe taken with Tylenol. Nevaeh is healthy as can be!
If you are still worried make sure you take every concern to your doctor but it turned out fine in my case! Tooth problems and pregnancy are torture together! Good luck mama!

I have taken them for years and was still given them throughout my last 2 pregnancys and my babies were just fine. They wouldnt give you somthing that is going to hurt you, somtimes being in pain can cause more harm then taking the medicine. Dont worry to much about it.

I'm sure your baby will be fine, especially if you have already stopped taking it... I assume you have, right?
The main problem with pain killers is the baby can develop a dependency on them. As long as your baby has enough time to go through withdrawal while in utero, then you are good.

vicodin was my best friend with my first pregnancy. I had HORRIBLE toothaches and was on a vicodin high for weeks when I was on antibiotics cause I had two infections in my teeth. My baby was perfectly fine. You will be ok just dont take them for too long and drink lots of water when you take those cause they can make you constipated.
