Need some answers

Hey everyone!

I'm 17, and I've never been to OB/GYN before. I am going to be having my first appointment in a few days. I don't know what to expect. I'm not sexually active or anything, but I'll be going to college in a few months and am interested in birth control.I'm sort of nervous, and I have heard that certain BC pills can cause weight gain. I would like to get on BC without becoming a fatty!

So here are my questions:
1. What should I expect in my first appointment?
2. Do you know of any BC pills that DON'T cause weight gain, and what are the side effects?
3. If and when I start my BC, should I tell my parents about it, or will the information automatically be shared seeing as how I'm not eighteen and am under their health insurance?


I would ask my doctor questions number 2 and 3, but I'm a little nervous to do so (for some reason).

1. They will have you fill out paper work, you should get a pap. Then you will talk about you sex life (obviously you don't have to worry about that one) and talk about your birth control.

2. All birth controls carry the risk of making you gain weight. There is a hormone free IUD but you have to have had a baby first to get it.

3. I would tell them. Your not doing anything wrong and you are protecting yourself. It's very responsible of you.

Why are you on a baby website if you're not sexually active?




1. Paperwork and questions and the feeling of having a tampon put in.
2. I gained weight when I was on BC pills. It happens. Just eat right and exercise, is all I can say.
3. I'm sure your parents would be more glad that you are getting on BC than mad. My mom went with me to my first.

Why does that matter? There are plenty of women on this site who are not sexually active, TTC, or have a child.
