The book is a great idea my 5 year old would love that! I have started writing letters but I still have not received a phone call from him yet so I have no address yet. He got there Tuesday at 11:30pm so I'm hoping to hear from him by next week?

yeah Sundays were usually the days he called me...

Deployments are hard and I can only imagine once my DH or myself gets deployed. I'm not sure when my DH will deploy but I am planning on deploying sometime in 2014. I know it's a ways from now but I am trying to grasp the idea and teach my DD how our jobs are.Glad to know that there are other military families on here. I'm Amn LLamas. AKA Amn Wilks.

How old will she be? And how long is your deployment going to be?

the first time my hubby deployed, our oldest was 2 and I was 8 months pregnant with our second. our son went with us and saw daddy leave. he knew daddy got on a plane, and was going to the desert to protect the people there. that was his job, like a super hero. if anyone asked, he told them "daddy is on a plane with a gun" lol. and every time we saw a plane, he made me stop (wherever we were) and "wave to daddy." that time, he was gone for 15 months.

the last time he was overseas was for 1 year, and he was in korea. our kids were 1, 2, almost 5 and 7 when he left. the older boys knew where he was, and what he was doing. again, we looked at pictures of daddy every night before bed. the girls didn't really understand, and kept asking for him for a long time. after about a month, our 2 year old would tell everyone "daddy is in korea."

he is getting ready to leave again. this time for 9 months. our kids are 2, 3, 6 and 8. we told them about the deployment the other day. we told them daddy was going back to the desert, but this time wouldn't be as long as before, and he would be in a safer place. our oldest is most upset because daddy is gonna miss his birthday again...

He's actually been home for a week tonight!  

But unfortunately, I'm back in MT now and he's in KS. If only our house on post would have been ready sooner.   But we were able to go and look at it and I'm so excited and cannot wait to be living there! And his leave starts soon, so we'll be together again soon enough. : )

My husband is getting sworn in tomorrow! He was suppose to get sworn in last Thursday but the system was down and they couldnt do it then due to a glitch with the system. Im excited for him

Congrats to you guys! What an exciting time.

I just found out my husband IS deploying for sure this summer. Boo on that. But it's better than staying here and waiting until we end up in Africa or Iran or wherever and having him sent away for a whole year at a moment's notice. Of course that could always still happen too but whatever the case this looks good for his career since he has been in over eight years without a single deployment  

I'm pretty sure I already mentioned this but I can't remember. I post on another board and on a FB group so I get them mixed up sometimes. Sorry if I already did.

Anyway, it will be for six months. That's not too bad.

DH deploys next week. I knew it was coming, they've been training a full year. But...it still sucks. I was okay yesterday, but I have teared up a little today.
