She will be close to 3 when he deploys and will be almost 4 when he comes home. We should be able to talk often cause he won't be in a direct combat zone which is good. I just hope she doesn't freak too bad when he leaves.

Mine only freaked because my husband didnt get a chance to say bye. We Skype on video at least once a week and chat daily. I took a lot of pics of them before my husband left and show them the pics whenever they get lonely. And the daddy dolls were a God send.

Any homecoming ideas? Daddy will be home in a few weeks and this will be a complete surprise to the kids. It seems surreal!

how old are the kids? will they be having a welcome home ceremony, or do you want him to surprise them somewhere else?

I think mine is too. The unit he'll be in come January should be deploying sometime early next year from what I understand and my heart is already breaking over it. The worst part is not knowing anything for sure. We're PCOSing to Camp Lejeune on December 20th and won't know anything until after that. Sigh.

Long story short, I pretty much know how you feel. We can be deployment buddies on here, heh.

Sounds good to me. I don't really have very many friends here so I don't really have anyone to go through this deployment with.  

we just pcs'd to Stewart and hubby is getting ready to deploy again as well. we still don't know a date or where to. He just got home from overseas in September, but he hasn't been to Iraq in 5 years. we pretty much knew his dwell time was up, but it is still tough to hear and get ready for.

My husband just left last week. I thought this one would be a little easier since we've done it 3 times already...hes done it 4 times total though. But with our son being older its kind of hard in a different way.

It just has to be better than the last one, has to be.

I'm just going to respond to both of you guys' posts here instead of quoting.

I have to say, the hardest thing right now is definitely not knowing when he'll be leaving. All we know is that we're going to move to Camp Lejeune on December 20th and that's it. We can't make plans for the holidays until after that but we're thinking he'll at least have a moment before getting sent off... at least we hope. I'm just glad he's in public affairs so he won't be in combat situations often (if at all). He wanted infantry but tells me he asked for PA instead now that he's married and has a child. I wish he would've gone with what he's most passionate about but he says he's happy regardless. (Of course he did do PA for the first five years he was in as an enlisted Marine so we're not surprised by him going the same course now. He never deployed as an enlisted Marine either... How crazy is that? They kept him at 8th and I most of the time until he went back to college at the Citadel. I don't know any other Marines that made it 7+ years without a single deployment.)

Sigh. I feel like we're just waiting for bad news. Obviously he's going to get deployed because that's part of his job but still... I just want to know when already. I try not to complain but it does bother me that we have no idea when he's leaving. I understand why they don't let people know until right beforehand but that doesn't make it any less annoying, lol.

Our friend is in admin, hes hitting his 10 years in the USMC, enlisted side...never deployed. He volunteers all the time but there are only so many slots for that.

Oh wow. That's still pretty rare from what I understand though. I don't know any other Marines that have gone as long as my husband without deploying but I don't know every Marine out there so yeah, lol.

4,3 and almost 2. He was in the first wave so there will be like 5 soldiers coming back. They don't know he is coming home but they ask at least once a day.
