UPDATE: 34w3d & in early labor. Preemie moms??

posted 14th Jun
My origional post was simply asking for what to expect of a baby born around 35 weeks, in case my contractions got close enough to go to L&D and/or they couldn't stop it. I've got a funneling cervix and my contractions (that I've been having for weeks) & low pinching pain were getting worse and more consistent (15 minutes apart). I've already had preterm labor stopped 3x since 23.5 weeks, so making it another 11 weeks (with pelvic rest) is awesome.

A lot of people criticized my choice not to go into L&D for something that's been going on for weeks now (that my doctor knows about), well, I was right. It was false labor. The closest my contractions got were 12 minutes apart, about 30 seconds long, then started fading away late last night, now I'm back to the normal random contractions I've been having for weeks.

Had they gotten to about 8-10 minutes apart, I would have gone. Anna's life and health are my biggest concern, NOT getting her out. I'd much rather be uncomfortable for a few weeks than have anything wrong with my either of my babies.
I was simply asking for what to expect in the worst case scenario and everyone blew it way out of proportion.

I'm very grateful to everyone who simply answered my question.

I went into pre-term labor at 33 and 34 weeks and they stopped it. He came at 37 weeks but the Dr. told me they would stop it until 36 weeks. Any reason why they aren't stopping it?

why are you waiting to go to L&D? Do you want a preemie?

She stated shes waiting for it to progress more to go! Sounds like she wants a preemie. Go to L&D so they can stop it! Baby is still cooking.

Go to the L&D they will stop it!! do not wait any longer. My LO was born at 34 weeks. it was hard he was in the hospital for 2 weeks and he wasn't sick or anything but lots of kids born then are and they can have real issues.

Our hospital tends to "let people go" at 35 weeks. I think they'd try to stop me til then, but can't be sure since I'm close to there, already have a funneling cervix, and a previous big baby (8 lbs 3 oz at 38w4d) - she's above average size on her ultrasounds, too...
They've already stopped labor 3x since 23 weeks. The last time (about a month ago) it took all 3 shots... I'm not sure they can stop her this time.

I'm a preemie mum, and more than anything you should be in the hospital ensuring they do what they can to stop it. Just another 2 weeks would make a big difference and hopefully avoid any hospital time for you both.

You may be past all the major risks, but even babies born 34-36 weeks are at higher risk for developmental issues, poor co-ordination and motor skills, behavioural issues, and in the short term issues like respiratory distress, jaundice, poor feeding, temp control and slow weight gain - and of course readmission to hospital.

You need to go to hospital. I'm surprised you've waited 2 days.

Doesn't hurt to try. If you don't go and baby comes early and has problems how are you gonna feel? Personally I'd feel like hell for not doing every thing I could have to help my baby.

Because of my funneling cervix I've been contracting randomly for months.
They don't want me to come in 'til I consistently get to about 10/hr.

Id still go in. you want them to do whatever they can to make sure that little girl is born healthy and at the right time.

All 3 of my kids are preemies. My first has developmental delays, my second has epilepsy, my third is healthy. I had no choice but to have them early.

You should go to L&D.

I had a 36 week preemie (delivered by emergency c-section due to really bad pre-e), but my son was perfect, just little. He came home with me 5 days later at 4 lbs 15 oz. The ONLY problem he had was gaining weight at first.

Even with him being perfect, I'd never want to have another preemie EVER AGAIN. It's a scary thing to go through... even when they aren't really in the NICU and nothing's wrong.
