re: UPDATE: 34w3d & in early labor. Preemie moms??

1 in 10 surviving is very different from 1 in 10 dying as is what we were discussing, you're twisting your own words just for the sake of it. And SIDS does not claim 1 in 10 lives either, it's less than 1 in 1800. You really have no place in this thread because none of the 'personal infomation' you provide is accurate.

By all means be supportive to someone in labor at 34 weeks, but coming in saying that 10% of them die (which is the only reason i replied - to correct your post, as it was really wrong) is not the way to help. If you want to post stats or info at least have accuracy as some mothers will cling to this if they are facing a preemie.

The earliest recorded was a day short of 22 weeks, and there is a huge difference between 20 and 22 weeks. Survival increases about 3% each day with an extreme micro preemie, but unfortunately the rate for a 22 weeker is tiny.

Most hospitals won't attempt to resus a baby under 24 weeks unless he/she is showing strong signs of life, as the levels of IVH and CDH (severe brain damage and lung disease leading to life long and severe disability) is so great for babys under that age.. The stats for a 23 weeker surviving beyond 3 years (as many die after leaving nicu) is less than 20%   But many more than that do survive birth and the initial days in hospital- more like the higher numbers you were given.

After 26 weeks most babies do go on to lead healthy happy lives, it just shows how a few short weeks can make so much difference

All micro preemies are truly miracles though, it takes so much strength from both them and their parents to get through the nicu journey and beyond - and all the medical professionals who support them through it. Congrats on your LO and making it to 36 weeks! Thank God they managed to stop your labour then and you made it closer to term

You know I really don't give a shit, I am tired of people like you who come on here thinking they know it all, I ask those are the answers I get from Doctors, friends, the internet, and if it is wrong so be it, but you never once considered the fact that you could be wrong. And you shouldn't be correcting someone just to bea bitch about sounding like you are better than everyone because of all the shit you have gone through. Even my husband said to stop responding to you becauase no matter what anyone says you are right. And the fact is you are still trying to be right after quoting Sarah, him and I both know the 20 weeker, and yet there you are saying "the earliest recorded..." Maybe did you ever think that not everything gets "recorded"? You are not a doctor. You have no clue about this one kid, and you are in a competely diffrent country. Shit works diffrently where I am from. Diffrent hospital have diffrent rules.

But physiology doesn't lie

You came into this post after the OP had already given birth.. and you stated a bunch of things that are not true and claimed that doctors told you them. End of story.

Right, so your "best doctor" gave you really wrong information. That was worrying to me, hence my response to it.

And no, i was stating physiological facts and statistics backed up by life experience. Your post was just really pointless and incorrect and instead of just accepting it you came out with more and more inaccurate info. It's like a person without a child trying to give parents bullshit advice. There is no good reason to go into threads and post false irrelevant things for the sake of it.

You came into a post titled 34 weeks in labour and said 1 in 10 babies at that stage die, i couldn't leave such an innaccurate statement out there. What if someone else was 34 weeks in that position and came across that?! To think 'oh my baby might die', or to say everything is ok for a micro preemie, some uninformed mama might think 'oh, it's ok to just have the baby now then'   Unfortunately there are young/uninformed girls out there who do think that way, and wouldn't rush to hospital when they really should and would be totally unprepared for what was to come.

WOW!! Anna Grace was born at 36w1d and was 6 lbs 11 oz... Your LO has a few oz on her and was 2 weeks earlier! That's awesome, Momma!!

OMFG just shut up!!!! Seriously anyone who is that worried talks to their doctors anyway, instead of taking advice AND THE POINT IS I said her baby had a better chance than a 28 weeker, but I guess I am wrong on that too?!?!?!?!?!? For fucks sake, that was my point

Mysister had twins at 20 weeks and they wouldnt even attempt to save the one that was alive bc they said it was for sure he wasnt going to make it and sadly they need the nicu beds for babies that do have a fighting chance.

That's what they say everywhere i'd imagine. Certainly over here and with all the mama's i've spoken to. When i was in labour with DS1 and he was alive, they told me there was just no way. Knowing the struggles of ourson later on (at 1 lb 14 oz) it's really obvious that physically a baby of that gestation (20 weeks) just doesn't have a chance, every single organ is so under developed. Even if they had a vent small enough for a 20 weeker, the oscillator would crush it's ribs straight away and infection would be so great.

You know what you went through with your son feeding too, so i'm sure you can understand why i find it so incredibly hard to believe that a baby would be full on bottle feeding at 29 weeks! Most of them have a hard time at 32 weeks with apnea and nippling...

And a one pound baby gaining THREE pounds in 4 weeks... any preemie mama knows that isn't possible. Fluid retention from CLD and failing kidneys yes, but certainly not gaining weight and then leaving hospital!!

Yea my son was born at 28 weeks and they didnt even try to even tube feed him for a couple weeks and had to give him iv nutrients instead. I know we were told we had to be REALLY careful touching him bc his skin was so thin and it would hurt him....I cant imagine a 20 week old babies skin. My husband couldnt even really see my son until he was stabalized....I dont think a 20 weeker could make it through getting stabalized.

Exactly, most babies are on TPN/IV for at least 2 days... so how could they suddenly take full bottle feeds within 5 days   It takes wayyyy longer than that to up them to all oral feeds. Mhhh no point, she's obviously full of shit.
