Earliest a child potty trained?

posted 10th Jun
just wondering... what was the earliest age you heard of a child being fully potty trained.?
some parents over exaggerate... like one told me " my son was fully potty trained by 10.5 mos"
im like should i be a fool to believe that... or is it really possible?

what is a good age to start potty training? my sister told me... once they are able to say the word DIAPER and retrieve one themselves before you change them.... then it is time.
she said "if a kid is able to actually go get his own diaper for a change... then it is time for the diapers to go."

what do you think?

I think 18 months is a good age to start...but not force. You will see signs when they are ready.

My MIL swears my DH was fully potty trained by 16 months. Which I guess is possible. I don't plan to start until dd is 18 months unless she initiates an interest.

Depends on the kid! My Neice was potty trained around 18 months. When she started going to the Toilet and saying Pee Pee My sister put her on and she went that way ever since! lol Easy! As for my nephew he started going to the toilet and hitting it when he had to pee- at 15 months? He isn't POTTY Trained but he will go do that from time to time! SO I am assuming your kid almost lets you know when they are ready!

Julien is 16 months, and I bought his potty seat about a month ago. He hasn't gone in it yet... but I'm just trying to get him used to sitting on it and whatnot.
Also... every single diaper change is a HUGE ordeal in this house... and I just can't do it anymore. He kicks, screams, twists, rolls away... Ugh. It's been like this for coming up on a year... and I'm about to lose my mind.
He can be running around playing... in the best mood... and if he sees you with a diaper in your hand, he throws himself on the floor, and starts throwing the biggest tantrum you've ever seen. It's horrendous...

I think it takes boys longer to grasp on. My son will be 2 in August and we have a potty, he sits on it. But he really hasn't gotten the hang of it yet, at all!

Everywhere else in the world children are fully potty trained by 18 months. And many cultures starts as soon as the baby learns to sit unassisted. They are not waiting for the baby to tell you when it's time to go potty, but rather the parents are getting the child used to the potty at an early age. But then again, maternity leave is anywhere between 1 to 3 years and moms have the means to do it. I can''t expect the daycare to put my son on the potty every 30-40 min..right?

I agree with this. I have a 5 year old son, and he was nearly 3 before he was fully potty trained. I babysit a little girl who just turned 3, and she was completely potty trained around 2... and she was much, much easier.

My son is almost 2 and I think he's going to be ready pretty soon.....he tells mepoop poop everytime he needs to go, but I put him on the toilet and nothing....but I guess its a really good sign. I always hear boys are harder to potty trian than girls.....
oh and my coworker swears both her kids were potty trained by 1 yr old.....hmmmm could be possible!

former child care worker here.
my class was 18-36mos. and our potty training breaks were once every hour. can't speak much for other daycares....
then again. I worked for the department of education's daycare... so they were on top of a LOT of shit concerning the kids and learning.

I know PLENTY of programs that don't even take 3 yr old's that aren't FULLY pottytrained. so kids potty trained by 2 don't seem like a "WOW" to me at all.
