Cats and Apartments

posted 4th Jun
My daughter and I are currently living back at my parents house while I wait on my approval for our new (hopeful) apartment.

Since Haylie absolutely adores my parent's cats, I am debating buying a kitten after we settle down in our new place.

I'm worried that a cat will make our apartment smell funny

I'm a naturally clean person, so doing a litterbox everyday is not a big deal to me and I've raised kittens before so I know what I'm doing.

Has anyone had ONE cat in an apartment? How did it go for you?

You should see how much it is going to cost.....at my last place, to have a pet. Was a 250 dollar pet deposit and a hundred extra bucks a month.

Oh I'm not worried about the pet deposit or anything, that's all taken care of should I decide to get the kitty

we have a cat and the only time you know hes here is when you see him.
His litter box is the biggest smell but if its cleaned out daily you dont even know its there.

Same with my dads cats...He also keeps a little odor catcher thing on the cats box for some extra help. He cleans his every day.

I think the kind of litter used is the biggest factor in the stench. My SIL's cat has made her apartment smell so bad and they use the cheapest litter you can find.

OP we use the tidy cats Breeze litter system, its little pellets that dont absorb anything then theres a pee pad underneath that you change weekly. The pellets you change monthly. Its amazing and since we got that you cant' smell the litter box at all.

We just got two kittens and they don't smell up our apartment... but we have a really big apartment... so I don't know. I sometimes can smell the litter, but it is in our laundry room right next to our living room, and I am also pregnant... so, yea. Hubby can't smell it and doesn't seem to bother him...
