anal fissure in 5 month old

posted 4th Jun
has anyone else's baby had this?

i had to rush over to johnny's daycare yesterday and take him to the emergency room because he had bright red blood in his stool. he was acting fine, happy, smiling... not acting sick at all.

when the doctor checked him, he found a small tear in his anus. he said it was from either passing a hard stool or (more likely) the diarrhea he had last week.

the only real "treatment" is regular hot "sitzs" baths to keep it clean and relieve the pain... and of course follow up with his doctor.

johnny normally sleeps through the night, and he was up screaming (this from a baby who almost never cries) over 5 times last night. and he's developed a really nasty cough. i'm keeping him home from daycare today just to keep an eye on him.

so has anyone else experienced this? any advice? help?

thanks

Oh poor thing!! I haven't went through this with my little one but with myself so I know how painful it is!! Will tylenol help relieve the pain at all? Can your doctor give you any sort of numbing cream to rub on the exterior part of the anus at all? I went through a ton of creams and some helped. I'm not for sure if they have a low strength numbing cream for infants....like EMLA maybe? I know you can use it on infants in low doses.
