i was wondering if anyone knew how soon i can take the baby on the airplane after he's born. because the military told my husband i have 30 days to get there after i deliver which is really soon and if thats the case i really want to have the tickets already cuz they really are expensive as hell...because its san diego in the summer time i am not really looking forward to it though because its my first big move alone without my mom them a drive away...i think the move made this a really stressfull pregnancy

I'm not sure exactly. I do know that my sister-in-law flew with a 2-week old from Texas to Indiana. I'm flying with a 4-month old to Korea and my doctor did not even flinch when I told him.

Im flying next week to KS and my baby will be just about 2 months old. I am going to the docs on fri for them to check him before I leave and give the ok. I am so scared about him crying and all the germs but many people do it so we will see!!

I would talk to your pediatrician, and wait as long as possible before you take that first flight just so that the baby can make as many antibodies and stuff as possible before getting on a plane.
It's easy to fly with a newborn, just make sure you bring your bobby or some other type of pillow, and don't be afraid to ask for help

okay thanks...it's just so frustrating because i have to be there in 30 days after my delivery and i can just imagine all the paperwork i am going to have to do if i can't take him...

Is your husband in the Navy?? My husband is in the Navy and we are stationed in San diego and I am due in Dec. I was reading on a baby website about taking a baby on a plain and they had some little tricks to do to make it more comfortable for the baby. Good Luck

I also had the same question too because after i give birth i plan on moving back to where my hubby is at. The pediatrician told me i could travel with her at the earliest 2 weeks, but yeah i would check with the pediatrician first just to make sure. Good luck on the move. I'm from Hawaii too and there's no place like home!

2 weeks - we had to fly from Ft Wainwright Alaska to Michigan because my FIL went into the hospital. He didn't wake up AT ALL on any of the 6 flights there and back. Docs said to either give him a bottle or binky during take off and landings to keep him swallowing so his ears would pop but we couldnt even wake him to do that. He was fine.

OOOOH and practice your dirty looks in the mirror so you can give them to the people sitting around you on the plane...trust me, they won't hold back when they see they have to sit next to a baby On all of the 24 flights my son has been on in the past 14 months, he slept through all but 1 and I've seen all the dirty looks imaginable and the heard the businessmen groan when they see their seat is next to ours. With a newborn, I recommend an aisle seat so if you have to stand up, or go change a diaper, you don't have to trip over anyone to get out of your seat. I gotta do all this again in a few weeks Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I feel like a pro with a baby on a plane by now!

I litterally JUST flew back home to California with a two week old. The doc said it was fine, and we had a check up appointment a few days before we took off to check to make sure he was gaining weight apporpriatly and was healthy and stuff. I know that the airlines don't require a doctor's note unless the baby is under a week old. Will slept the entire flight home plus a layover.
My suggestions are:
Bring a boppy
Carry the baby in a sling or snuggly
Check as many bags as possible.
Airlines also don't count certain baby gear as checked luggage (like your car seat, stroller or in some cases a pack and play).

That last part isn't true. Airlines do have restrictions when it comes to checking baby itiems. They are allowed 2 pieces to be checked just like adults. However, rules are not always inforced. Anything you check at the gate itself doesn't count. For Example: If you check 1 piece of luggage and a car seat for your baby they may not check a stroller at the counter but you can take it to the gate and have them check it there before you board your plane. It's been alot easier for us to do this and take the stroller in general rather than our Baby Bjorn because that's just one more thing you have to take on the plane and fiddle with. All I carry on the plane is my baby and a diaper back with my purse in it. Oh and if you're going to be checking a carseat that has a detachable base to it, make sure they are attached so it counts as 1 item instead of two.

I also have a question, what if you have to use the restroom and you are by yourself without your husband/boyfriend, how does that work. I mean i wouldn't trust anyone watching them for a little while, while i'm in the restroom. Will the flight attendants do it? Thanks!
