I didn't start at any particular age. If my little girl was getting into something that could hurt her and distraction didn't work, I would swat her hand slightly and tell her "No" and point to the forbidden object. I would repeat "no" again firmly. As she gets older, spanking is stillalways a last resort. (i.e. if I put her in time out and she defies me by getting out.) I do NOT put up with tantrums in public places. I let her get away with much more at home as she is a toddler after all. I also spank when she throws things at me in the car. It's rare, but it happens on occassion when she doesn't get her way. I neverspank out of anger as I don't typically get angry with her. I get a little frustrated at times and I won't spank then either. I just take myself a time out while she takes hers.

ha that's funny... my daughter will either wait until 2 or she'll wait until i look like i'm getting up or coming towards her and then she'll hurry and stop/start doing what she's supposed to do.

i plain to spank my son but only at the age of about two or three and if he knowswhat he has done or is doing is wrong if me or his father hasnt told him that it is wrong or have gotton on to him then he shouldnt no better and wont no not to do those things

When Adina gets older, around 2 or so, Yes, i will spank if I have to. I was spanked a lot as a child, and I am still alive, and it caused me no emotional or mental damage. So I see no problem with it if there is an absolute reason to do it, and if the child is being overly defiant and there is no other option.

Spanking is not abuse IMO, BUT there is a fine line between spanking and abuse. Spanking is one thing, but Hitting is a whole other ball game.

My thing is, When the child misbehaves and continues to be defiant knowingly, you CAN spank, but you must do it when you are NOT angry, because if you do it out of emotion, it can easily be worse than it should have been. A lot of parents hit their children purely out of anger, and not out of what needs to be done. My daughter will know she has gone TOO far when she HAS to get spanked. There is nothing wrong with a tap on the butt if it is a last resort. It should NEVER be the first thing you do though.

My aunts boy is 5 years, and he is the worst behaved child you will ever see, all because her and her husband refuse to discipline him in any way shape or form. I refuse to let my daughter get that way.

My daughter is 19 months andwe spank her, but the rule is only if she is going to hurt herself with whatever, or is hurting someone. When she was about 10 months we gave her little swats on her hand like when she tried to touch heaters and such, nothing that leaves a red mark though, and now she gets it on the butt, not hard, just enough to get her attention, she is a dare devil though so she liked to get on the couch and try to jump off or play with fire, or jump in water, she kicks us and hits us(something nana taught her if she don't get her way) we are trying to break her of that. But it's mainly if she is going to get hurt, like running in the road or at Walmart or something
