Just saying Hello

posted 17th Jun '07
I am new at all this.

I am 17, my name is Samantha. I am 14 weeks pregnant with not just one baby but two- yes, twins   . Um, Due December 14 but will more than likely come a little earlier than that according to the experts.

Just looking for someone to talk to I suppose. Everyone I know who is pregnant is either farther along, or so much older they can't just talk to me.

Congratulations to all mothers-to-be!!

Um, I feel really bloated. Like, it feels like there is a ton of pressure in my stomache at times that just won't go away.. The morning sickness wasn't that bad. Most women pregnant with twins have extreme nauseau. I was lucky. haha.

They don't know if they are fraternal or identical, chances are they are fraternal because they don't run in my family at all... there are NO twins anywhere. and I was on birth control which could have made me release 2 eggs. We won't know until they are born. And in 6 weeks we find out what they are. From listening to their heartbeats they are both girls, but I want a boy and a girl, but the father wants girls.

And yea, I almost had a heartattack. My blood pressure was 110.72, which is extremely high for a 17 yr old. haha. My pulse was 98 too. The father just laughed, he couldn't do anything else. He was smiling and laughing.

Congratulations on the little boy. Do you have a name picked out?? That is what we are struggling with, names. We have 4, two boys and two girls. But I have a feeling those won't be the names they get.

Congratulations gals!

Actually Samantha, if twins DON'T run in your family you're more than likely having identical twins. With fraternal twins, 2 eggs drop and cause 2 babies that don't share all of the same genes. With identical twins, only one egg is dropped and after it's fertilized splits in two or more causing multiples that share 100% of their genes. Only fraternal twins run in the female side of families. Identical is a complete chance of luck.

Also, don't worry about your BP at all! 110/72 is awesome even for a young adult. I'm surprised they are telling you it's high, when it's actually almost low. You don't need to worry about it being high until it reaches the 130/90 and that's still not bad.

Good luck with the pregnancies ladies and stay healthy,

Jacque

Really?? The way things were always said out loud it sounded like they wouldn't be identical. Great. That is what he is hoping for, identical twin girls. He might get his wish. haha. But thank you for that insight.

It was high for me because normal BP for me is like 78/90 or something. It's always really small numbers. I have never had a 3digit number on top. So, it might not have been high, just uncharacteristic. Thanks for that too!

And thank you for the congratulations. Not many peopel are too excited, but I think that any time one baby, let alone two, are created out of love, it is special. They weren't the product of a one night stand, more like a 2 year relationship, almost 3. So our dedication to each other is pretty obvious, and these babies are the apple of his eye already.

Thanks for the info though! That was great to have it just explained like that. Thanks again.

Congratulations Samantha, I hope you have a great pregnancy. I was hoping for twins with this pregnancy but they've only seen 1 baby int here for my last couple of u/s. Oh well I guess I don't need 2 at a time. Birth control is such a tricky thing, my best friend got pregnant both times while she was on birth control.
It's awesome that you boyfriend is excited already, there's alot of guys out there that act foolish about things like this. I bet he'll be a great daddy.
You seem very calm for having twins, I'd be a nervous wreck thinking about having to buy 2 strollers, carseats, highchairs, and all that good stuff. It's like twice the work. Are you thinking about breastfeeding? I hope everything turns out great for you and you get 2 beautiful babies at the holidays!!! CONGRATS

Yea, I am glad he is excited about it. One of my friends got pregnant and her boyfriend left. He comes to see her every now and then. But, he doesn't exactly want to be there for the baby. And I have seen my boyfriend, Robert, with kids. It's amazing. I am glad I found someone like that.
I don't know about calm at all. I think that i have just accepted it you know? I have spent days on end in prayer and that kind of peace is just reassuring. His mom is so excited about it though, we really don't have anything left to buy. She got a single stroller and a double. We have a TV box full of clothes and more daily. We have a huge playpen, two bathtubs, carseats for infants and toddlers, and swings... The one thing we are goin to buy ourselves now is cribs and bassinets. Our friends are so happy for us too. My best friend has banned herself from the mall because she always ends up in Gymboree or BabyGap and spends tons of money... So, I am not worried about buying right now.
I want to breastfeed, but I don't know how hard that will be on me. I have always heard how painful it is to feed one, I have 2. So, I am goin to see a lactation consultant about that. Any advice there??
And thank you!!!

Samantha,

Your family or friends might be upset about the pregnancy now, but as soon as the babies are here no one will remember they were upset to begin with. You might be young, but like you said...it's not like it was with a one night stand. I have a friend that got pregnant at 16 and she married her boyfriend and is still with him to this day. She is 26 so they've been married almost 10 years. There's a success story for ya

I highly recommend breast feeding. It IS very hard, but so rewarding. It's so much healthier for the babies than formula especially for preemies which you will most likely have. It creates a bond with mother and baby that no one else will have....and it helps you lose the baby fat a LOT faster. With my first baby, I was pregnant with two friends. I was the only one that continued to nurse and I was back to my original weight in less than 2 months. They kept asking me to work out with them so they could see what it was I was doing. I tried telling them I wasn't even working out, it was just from nursing, but they didn't believe me. If you need any help or have any questions about it at all let me know and I'll give you my email or myspace url and you can keep in touch with me.

Stay well,

Jacque

I hope that they forget being upset. It's really just my mom, and a few people at school who like to talk trash. But I think that the people who matter are the ones who will say things to my face. The few i have who have stuck by me are suppotive, they want to see me and Robert get married, long before the pregnancy people wanted that. My mom is the one person that I wish could accept it. I am not the first 17 yr old to get pregnant, and I promise that I won't be the last one. Many have done it before me, and many will do it after. I will do this. I graduate from high school in December as an early graduate, and I am taking college courses. I won't be the failure that America focuses on.

And as for breast feeding- I am just worried that it will be too stressful for my body. Having to produce enough for one baby, or keep up with the feeding, seems like it is a challenge for many women, and at 17, I wonder if my body can handle it. I will more than likely have a c-section and I wonder if that will affect me much. I am excited about loosin the baby-weight. haha. I hope that I don't get stretch marks to bad. I already have them on my breasts from before, like they grew over night and the scars are barely visible now, but I don't wanna go through that again, they were AWFUL.

Thanks for the adivce!!

It's hard for your Mom to accept it because you're her baby. She'll come around. If I had money to spare, I'd bet on it

As for Breast feeding...If your body couldn't "handle it", you wouldn't be pregnant. Alot of times after C-sections your body doesn't realize that you've already delivered (because you didn't deliver naturally) so it won't produce milk as quick, but most of the time if you try for a few days it'll start flowing. The amount of milk you produce depends on how often you are feeding/pumping. If you need or want to be producing more milk...pump or feed more. If you want or need to be producing less milk...your body will adapt and slow down when you slow down. It's very rare that a woman CAN'T produce milk. It happens I know, but the biggest reason that women don't nurse is they just don't want to deal with it. And I'm not saying that's BAD. I just happen to agree with 99% of the doctors which recommend nursing for a minimum of 12 months. These are your babies and you have to decide what is best for them. If you prefer formula to nursing than don't let anyone change your mind about it, but don't make your decision now based on whether you think your body will be able to handle it or not. If that's the only reason your doubting it than let your body make that decision when the time comes.

Hope I didn't come off too strong,

Jacque

No. You definitely didn't come off to strong. Some people will go around the actual answer, and I hate having to decipher things. Because that just creates more questions. I agree with those 99% of drs too. I really think that it is more healthy, your body produces that for a reason. I just didn't know if I could or would be able to. But I definitely want too.

I figured that is why my mom doesn't like it too much. But I really think that she might be able to get past it all when she see her grandbabies in the hospital for the first time. And she get's to hold them and realize just what a miracle they are, that they aren't the huge mistake and burden that she thinks right now.

You are great to talk to! Thank you so much.

That is a great name. I love it!

I got a lot of clothes for the babies too. And everyone is giving me bigger shirts, so I won't have to buy any of that.

For our twins- if they are boys- we want Triston Kyler and Brayden James.
For the girls that he swears we are having- we want Natalie Brooke and Brooklyn Faith. I am trying to find another middle for Natalie, because I don't want her middle and to sound so much like the other name. Any suggestions??

I had a dr appt yesterday....
I gained 4.2 lbs in 4weeks.. hahahaha. And my BP is only 118 over something.. I don't remember. I think it was 78...
The babies heartbeats are at like 160. lol. They are just poundin right along.
They did a Triple Screen Test too... Anyone else have that done??? It test for birth defects like Spina Bifida and Down Syndrome... It was a lot of blood. The dr said if it comes back positive they have to take fluid from BOTH amniotic sacs... 2 big ass needles in my abdomen.. But did anyone else have it done???

I go back in 4 weeks for another check up. And then they referred me to a specialist on Twins in another city.. I have to go out there for my 20 week ultrasound to see what they are.. I am so excited! 5 more weeks!!!

It's awesome that you already have almost everything. I wish I was prepared like that and this is my 3rd. It's really great that you are considering breastfeeding too. You just have to go into it thinking completely positive and telling yourself you know you can do it. The babies will stimulate you to produce enough milk for 2, and you can pump it if it gets too much for you. Once I got the hang of breastfeeding I absolutely loved it. I didn't have to pack any formula or bottles for the baby, I could just take him and go. I hope it works out for you.

It looks like your appt went well. Is the triple screen test optional because I've never had that test done I don't think. I've always opted against it. I think my doctor calls it the quad marker test though so I'm not sure if it's the same! Your bp seems to be good for having twins. I can't wait until you find out what you ae having, I get so excited when women get to find out. I still have 8 weeks but I get a u/s every 2-3 weeks because I'm high risk so maybe the doc can tell me earlier.

Well hope you have a great day!!
