Spinal Tap (lumbar punctures)

If you've had one and had the Doctor performing it hit a nerve, how long did it take for things to go back to normal?
I got one 2 weeks ago and I felt the Doctor hit bone and I cringed a little, well since then my left side of my lower back has bothered me. I get pinching and stabbing pains when I sit down or try to stand up from where im sitting. It's not extremely painful more of an annoyance, but I just wanted to know how long it could take or how long it took you for it to go away?

I never got pinching pains from it after it wore off. But I did get the WORST headache for a few days after I came home from the hospital. It sucked.

I had a lumbar puncture while I was pregnant with Georgia (who is now almost 20 months) and I still have pain some times. It was a very traumatic event. It took them like 15 times to get fluid. It was so bad. I'd post pics, but you really don't want to see lol.

A spinal tap or an Epidural? I'm not talking about an epidural.

I had a Spinal Tap done, and then I got a Spinal headache so bad, I couldnt move me head from side to side, or let alone walk without my head just thumping.
I remember them hitting a nerve too, and it took a good 3-4 weeks, before I felt "me" again.

Good luck mama!! Get lots of rest, try not to irritate it too much!

Really? I have to have them once a week for the next couple weeks until I have surgery. I've had 2 already and the first went well to remove fluid and the 2nd one he hit bone and ever since my back has had the pinching pain.

Why are you having surgery?

I have a blood clot in my head and where it is, it's blocking my sinuses so it's preventing fluid from draining and it's constantly building up. I have to get a shunt put in, and once that's in I shouldn't have to have spinal taps anymore to remove fluid

I went to the ER for a massive headache, and they did a CAT scan, and said that it was 97% accurate, and insisted on having a Spinal tap just to rule out the other 3%, and I was like OK!
NEVER AGAIN!! I will be just satisfied with the 97%!!

Yeah this all started with headaches that wouldn't go away, then my vision got distorted, my blood pressure was super high, they ran a CT scan and found the clot. They determined it was from being on birth control pills. This has been going on since mid April. Hopefully everything starts coming to a halt soon. I have to wear a stupid patch on my left eye because my optic nerve has pressure on it from my spinal fluids building up. Some little girl in the grocery store the other day called me a pirate

Sorry I have to kinda chuckle at that, if it would have been me, I went have went "ARRRRG" to her. Scare the crap out of her!
I meant CT scan, not CAT scan. sorry.
thats why I cant be on BC. Because of blood clots.
Did you stop taking them? Sometimes they have a lawyer you can contact to get compensation.

It's okay, if it had been anyone other than myself I probably would've found it funny too, but I've even got adults staring at me. My Husband told me I should write on my forehead "Yes, It's still there" lol.
I did stop taking them. I filed complaints with both the company that makes them and the FDA. If there's permanent damage to my eye from this, then we'll probably get in touch with a lawyer.
I can be on IUD's and I think that's about it, I have to go to my Gyno consult but in order for that to happen they have to give me some time out of the hospital. I get re-admitted today so I can have another LP. Since I'm on anti-coagulant medication to keep my blood thin, they have to reverse everything and bring my blood back to where it can coagulate so they can do the puncture, it's a pain in the butt.

Holy crap! That's awful, if you ever have to have one again, try requesting to see an interventional radiologist they do the LP's through ultrasound so they can see where they are going. Both of mine have been done with one, but the last one apparently had his head up his ass before he performed it.
