$400 for a travel system?!?

posted 19th May
A friend of mine who is expecting her first has just picked out her travel system, and when she told me the price my jaw dropped! in US dollars its roughly $400.

Now to me that is WAY too much to pay, especially as the car seat only lasts upto roughly 7months. She is also yet to get the crib, so god knows how much she's going to spend on that. she's the kind that likes stuff the more expensive it is. even tho her and her fiancee cant afford it.

she wanted a "baby on board" car sign, and had to get the most expensive she could find. i think she may regret spending so much on these things after the baby gets here.

do you think its too much? or am i just being stupid posting this?

I think its to much. IMO.
Especially considering in about 8 months or so she will have to buy a bigger carseat and those are about $120 or so. Mine travel system was only $140 and I wouldnt go any higher then that.
Crib wise if its a nice one and can be converted to a toddler/full size bed them the money is worth it. My sons crib was $400

$400 is crazy to me! You can find a perfectly nice one for under $250. Babies don't use them long enough, to waste that much money on them!

Our travel system was just about $300 and crib was $250. So I wouldn't say it's to much imo. But if it's out of their budget then it's not like she has much choice..

We spent $330 on our travel system. But it also has a higher weight limit and some of the best safety rating around. Can't put a price on a child's safety. Our crib was part of a 3 piece set that we paid $1200 for, but I think by itself it was just short of $300. To me, there are some things that can be cheap, and some things that just shouldn't be skimped on if you can help it. Car seats are one of those things.

Personally that is way too much - the travel system we wanted was almost $200, but luckily a friend gave us theirs which saved us money. Our crib was almost $200.

If I had the money though, I wouldn't mind spending a high amount for the one I wanted.

she's a cleaning and she's finished working now, so only getting maternity money which is less than her usual pay. she used to do 15hrs a week but 2-3 months in it got too much for her so she only did 10hrs a week up til last week.

her fiancee is in the army but he's only bringing home $600-$800 a month after tax, and that has to pay for his meals and his bills (eg. credit cards, paying off her engagement ring)

i think $400 is too much unless you got the money to spend.. then hey.

is it the one in your avvie? and did you use it for all your children? she's the type of lady that doesnt go out much, and i really dont see her using it a great deal when the baby is here.

she's also the type that wont use protection once the baby is here, so will no doubt get pregnant again quickly. and she'll want all new stuff for the next one.
