flying with a 9 month old...

posted 15th May '09
i'm planning to go to the east coast when my son is 9 months old. i'm nervous about him getting the extreme ear pain like i do. i have to use special ear plugs and even they dont always wor and i'm crunched up in a ball crying hyterically. how can i care for him if its happening to him also? i will be alone with him.
i'm plaiining to go for about 2 weeks if not less. what should i bring? how do i keep him sitting for 5-6 hours?
i cant bring all his toys and thing on a plane for the actual visit, any suggestions as to must haves?

I was flying with a 5 month old for 15 hours.
I just packed everything..lol...well I would pack some stuff like a book , fav. teddy, snacks..stuff that would keep him entertain for a while.
don't know about the ear pain...i dont have that and neither does my daughter. She was fine the whole ride.

no you leave it before you go on the plane and they take it and store it..you get it back when you land.
I have an evenflo too and in the car I also don't need the base but I did need it in the plane..They wouldnt let me put her just in there without it..cause its diff. then in the car/

I flew with Gio at 3 months (only 3 hours) and we will fly 10 hours to the US in June.

The sucking on the way up and down that someone already mentioned is true!!  It really wasn't that bad.  No one expects babies to be silent the whole flight so a couple of cries every once in a while is tolerable for others lol.

We brought the laptop to watch a cartoon too.  Def dress him warm cause planes are always COLD and bring a blanket.  As far as changing goes WOW that was a challenge.  The bathrooms have NO place for that as you know, the seat next to us was empty so i changed him in the seat!

He'll be ok mama~ good luck!

I flew when emma was 9 months, They didnt charge me for her carseat and stroller, you just leave it right outside the plane, and its there when you get off-well the stroller atleast.
I gave emma a tiny bit of benadril(sp?)-my doc said it was ok, and that made her sleep the entire flight

I didnt have a seat for my daughterand she was still allowed to have 2 laggages but I think that depends on the airline...just go to the website of the airline it should say it there!
I didnt have to pay for the stroller or carseat either. Before you go on the plane you leave the stroller and carseat infront of the door and they take it and store it in the plane. When you arrive you'll get it back in front of the door.
