May 5, 2009 at around 5pm I felt my first contraction, ever. Didn't Hurt or anything, so I'm guessing it was BH. They started off at 20 min. apart, and within the next few hours, were every 5 min. apart. Went in to L&D at about 9pm. They checked me, I was 2.5 cms dilated and still only 50% effaced. They sent me home and told me to come back when my contractions are painful.
Went home and slept for a little. Then woke up at 3am to VERY painful contractions, still 5 min. apart. By 4am they were every 3 min. apart. Decided to tough it out for a bit because I didn't want to get sent home again. Finally, at around 8am I decided to head down to L&D again. She checked me, and said my contractions were every 1-2 min. apart [idk if I was timing them wrong??] and I was a good 4cms dilated, completely thinned out, with a buldging bag of water. They put in an IV then sent me walking for 2 hours. Came back, they checked me again and I was 5.5cms. She told me that they were admitting me, and they were going to break my water. My husband is a marine and was in cali for schooling, so, I tried sending a red cross message to get him down here in time for the birth, but, was told they won't send a message until AFTER the baby is born as a birth announcement, so I was pretty pissed off.
The nurse asked if I wanted my epi before they broke my water, since I guess your contractions get more intense once your bag is broken, I decided to get mine before. The epi hurt like hell, and they placed it wrong, so I had to do it twice, but once it was in right and got to working, it was amazing lol. A few hours later they came in felt around my tummy to estimate her weight [they guessed she was around 8lbs], then they broke my water.
Waited around for a while. Then by 9pm they checked me again and I was 10cms dilated, so it was time to start pushing, and holy hell that was hard. Pushed through every contraction for 3 hours [very tiring], and then by 12:14am on May 7th my little girl was here! Weighing 7lbs 7oz. & 19.5 inches long with a FULL head of hair! She was 4 days late, but she was definately worth the wait lol.
So, I sent the birth announcement to my hubby but was told he couldn't come down until the following Thursday. Then, the next day, he surpirsed the hell out of me by walking into the hospital room! ha best surprise ever!
Well, thanks for letting me share ladies!
