My oldest child is 12 and he has autism. He was diagnosed around 2 years old. It was obvious around 18 months that things werent quite right. He isnt able to go to a regular school though. He gets kicked out when we try to main stream him. An YES they can do that. They just have to pay for him to go to a private school for kids with behavioral problems. He was more than the teachers could handle and he was disrupting the whole school. But he can cook food and can take care of himself pretty well.I have to help remind him to beathe, put on deordorant and of course he still has behavioral issues as well. He also has Tourettes and ADHD. The Tourettes is a HUGE issue right now. He has a ton of vocal tics. And it tends to scare people. But parenting him has been so rewarding.

I know they just keep saying that he is on the line and its really annoying im about to give up. They just want to look at it every year. I mean its bad enough that he has such a terrible time with his speech like i really want him to have more issues. But they say he just progresses to well and most autisic kids dont do that but idk about that there are ppl out there with autisum that can led normal lives well relatilly normal. Its just frustrating ya know as a parent not knowing what to do. They should make a book on how as the adult we are suppost to handle this smurf.

When my son was first dx'd I remember saying that again and again. Not just for how to handle it- but one that they like give you when you get a dx- or your child is suspected that lets you know what steps to take- how to get all the services available, etc. I went to work right away (my husband joked it was my FT job - besides being a mom.) to get my son signed up for all he needed- but still a year later, sometimes I hear of different routes/services from other parents that I had no idea existed. - The other bad thing is there are so MANY books out there on autism and treatments, its hard to find one that is comprehensive, and also unbiased as far as the treatment options that just gives the facts about why this treatment might work- pros and cons, etc. I keep joking that someday when I have time- I'm gonna write one.

I am so with all of you it is very trying at times! My oldest is now 13! Its very difficult for people to understand when he look like everyone else, to understand thetoll it takes on a family! My son has Ashberger's or is it classified as ADHD this week or Bipolar Disorder. Finally, out of the regular classroom and doing a bit better. They have him in the ED classroom and is doing very well.I thought he would be upset but I think he likes the structure.

Quoting mom of three kiddos!:“ I was lookin for this forum i couldnt find it. But anyways my son is going this week to be tested for Autism.”

How did the testing go???
I have 2 boys, one is nearly 3 and the other has just turned 1, our 3 year ols as diagnosed with AUtism earlier this year and yes it was a very emotional time. He now has therapy 4 hours per week and that's not enough. Here in Australia we don't get enough support for kids like ours and is really really difficult dealing with his day to day tantrums. He is a very lovable little man he just hasn;t any idea the power of communication as yet, hopefuuly this will come one day.
We have just found out we are pregnant with #3 and it was a complete surprise!!!! We are now just hoping that this litlle bub is not autistic, but it is gods hands now xo

my daughter will be four in december & people are suggesting she may have Autism. at the age of 2 she was talkin perfectly and suddenly she just stopped.. jus babbling like a baby. listein doesnt happen, fits are absolutly horriable. will not eat hardley, very picky she will only eat pasta. she has been to an occupational therepists. they refuse to have her tested for adhd or autism. they tell me shes a stronged willed child & they say this bc she also is now able to talk plane as day BUT this is only when she wants too. i removed her for her therepy bc they werent doin anything. they tested her for ear problems and thats it and that testing came back fine and the tell me they me shes just stubborn. i am now currently looking to get her tested. she is a very smart lil girl, she does things that has been said to be above avaerage in alot of her day to day activities according to her last thereipist. her biggest issue is her fits. she hits, screams and yells when told no or not givin her way. i really hope this time around i can get some answers. this has prevented her from bein put in preschool.
