i need a makeover, HELP!

posted 12th May
so im in desperate need of a total makeover. at the moment the main thing i wanna get done is my hair. its not been cut by a hairdresser for over 2 years! (i've hacked it off myself over those 2 years and its just a right mess, as you'll see from the pics below)

(sorry that one is so big. i resized it but it doesnt look resized to me)

i think i have a round face shape (tell me if you think otherwise) and am looking for a new cut (i will get it colored, but not just yet) my hair is quite thick too and i definitely (sorry leigh if i got it wrong, i did look up in my oxford english dictonary lol) need some layers.

please tell me what you think and give me some input as to how i should have it styled.

thanks ladies

I think you have an oval face. Layers will help the thickness.

I think you should get long layers. If you take too much off it could make your face look fat. Plus if you hate the layers it wont take so long to grow back. Also you have a very light complextion and I think your hair might be a bit too dark right now. If you want you could also get you hair choppy and thinned. (thats what I do to mine and I like it)

When I was leaving for my Snowbird Winter Vacation - 4 months down South - my hair dresser told me an easy way to keep my hair layered- He told me to take pencil thick pieces of your hair, starting from the top back, and twirl the strand tightly - then take a scissors and snip 1/3 of the way into the strand at 3 or 4 different places along the strand, then snip off the end your thumb width (where you are holding it at the end) then pull loose ends out as you release. Go around your entire head, using small bundles and twist, snip, and disgard. It works beautifully - but the cut closest to your scalp should be about the length of your hand width.

and for your bangs - make a triangle section from temple to temple - and twist this section, pull it straight frontwards level with your eyebrows, and snip one hand width from forehead, and you will have layered bangs, in a curved fall - this works well for little girls too, in the bath tub, just twirl a rope of hair you measured in a triangle, and with a quick snip, the bangs are done. Works well.

Does that make sense to you? You can do it yourself, but make sure you use small bundles, and random cuts - making 4 cuts 1/3 of the way in from scalp to end.

I dont think she should mess with the layers herself... If she messes it up it could be a disaster! lol

i will leave the layers to the pros lol.

i think i'll have it thinned out a bit, cos its summer and the thickness really is horrible in summer.

I have pointed hair cutting scissors, so I just pierce into the rope twirled hair with the point 1/3 into the rope, and snip - just be careful you don't go too close to the scalp.

She can do this herself, if she is patient, as this does take a while to do. But its amazing how well you can do it herself. The only way she could make a mess, is if she does not have really pointed small scissors - you can buy them at the drug store, Walmart, or go to the sewing centre - but use this special scissors, only for hair. Not for anything else.

I dkn I only pay about 20 dollars to get it cut washed layered choppy and thined. I'd rather just spend the money lol

and get bangs when you see the professional. I think bangs would be lovely on you. And I dye my own hair as well - bleach, streak, dye - so much fun.

Its not always easy for me to get to a hairstylist, cause I travel so much - and it works for me. I always check in with my original hair stylist, and he gives me guidance and products, so Im okay with doing it myself.
