I don't want to hijack the pro-life thread, but the notion arose that there is no one that shouldn't have been born, essentially.
So, while I've posed similar questions before, I would like to present a few examples and ask if these children were better off being born, or if abortion would have been the more humane choice - and before you resort to "well, they should have used protection/kept their legs shut/put the kid up for adoption" - that DIDN'T happen. We're dealing with reality here. Those were clearly not realistic options in these cases, but given the outcomes, abortion certainly is:
Before you read any further, be aware that these are painful stories, and you may prefer not to read them and leave this thread.
http://www.parentsbehavingbadly.com/2009/03/29/no-insanity-defense-for-breeder-who-left-baby-alone-for-8-days/
They were the pair of Breeders who
left their 5-month-old baby son, Benjamin Sargent, alone in his carseat in his crib for 8 days without feeding him or changing him or checking on him. According to a witness they were busy “playing video games, watching TV, feeding and caring for themselves.”
Benjamin Sargent was found in the same clothes he was dropped off at the house it with his eyes open and his fists clenched. Both Breeders have been charged with murder.
More recently an insanity defense for Sargent has been rejected. Sargent’s attorney contended that Sargent has a “dissociative disorder.” According to the good doctor Sargent retreats into the fantasy world of Lord of The Rings.
However the shrink that saw Sargent said that was only part of what led Sargent to ignore his own child.
The doctor testified the dissociation could explain some of what happened when the infant died after going without food or water for eight days in mid-February 2008, noting a baby’s cries are difficult to ignore.
“Either he (Sargent) is either deaf and blind or an utter psychopath. There’s no evidence of either,” Killian said.
So on that basis the judge thankfully rejected that defense.
Sargent is looking at 20 to 100 years behind bars and his trial is set for April 27th.
Hermann’s trial is set for May 4th.
Last I heard they were both blaming each other.

Was that five month old who died terrified and alone, starving over a period of eight days, really better off being born? Would it not have been more humane for the parents to make the choice to abort?
http://www.parentsbehavingbadly.com/2009/03/14/ohio-woman-charged-with-squeezing-infant-to-death/
25-year-old Samantha A. Smith of Milford, Ohio has been arrested in the death of her
11-day-old daughter. The girl died on Dec. 20th of last year. Authorities say that Smith admitted to
squeezing the baby because she was constipated which caused the baby’s intestine to rupture. What the hell? If that was really her motivation babies aren’t Play Doh toys for God’s sake.
There was evidence of other abuse too. Neighbor’s claimed that the baby had bruises on it’s face like someone had pinched the baby’s cheek to the point of contusions. Smith also canceled a doctor’s appointment for the baby three days before her death. Police believe that was to cover up the abuse.
Also arrested was Smith’s boyfriend 26-year-old John D. Foster. Both have been charged with manslaughter and child endangerment.

http://www.parentsbehavingbadly.com/2009/03/12/uk-woman-sentenced-for-crushing-son/
27-year-old Claire Biggs of Newham in east London has been sentenced to 8-years for for
crushing her two-month-old son Rhys to death in 2006.
The infant’s chest was crushed breaking 17 ribs. He also had injuries to his wrist and shoulder.
Biggs is a former drug addict who had a child taken from her in 2001. And not unlike the Baby P story social workers had also visited the family only to find ‘nothing wrong’.
Biggs claims that her boyfriend, 33-year-old Paul Husband, was the actual killer. He’s a piece of work himself as he was previously convicted of what the article calls “a sexual offence involving a child”. Nice guy to have your kids around.

http://www.parentsbehavingbadly.com/2009/02/08/milwaukee-woman-charged-with-starving-1-month-old-to-death/
21-year-old Vera Morehouse of Milwaukee, Wisc. had 5 kids. Let me repeat that in case it didn’t sink in. By the age of 21 she had 5 kids.
Last summer her youngest, 1-month-old Lamour,
died from starvation while strapped in his carseat. The house was in the condition you’d expect to find it in with situations like this.
Now I’m not saying that Morehouse intentionally starved her son but if you have 5 kids by the time you’re 21 you have a serious problem of not being able to keep your legs closed.
Again the old adage applies if you can’t feed ‘em don’t breed ‘em.

Was this one month old who died from starvation, strapped in his carseat better off being born?
I could post more stories like this, but I'll spare you that.
Could you, if you had the chance, look these children in the eyes and say "yes, you were better off being born than being aborted at four, six, eight weeks when you couldn't feel the pain you felt dying the way you did"?
Do you really think that these men and women would use protection, or take care of themselves for nine months and hand the children over for adoption if abortion was illegal? Do you really believe that?
Do you really believe there won't be an increase in stories like this if abortion is made illegal?
Is it really worth it to make martyrs out of these children, and children like these, to make abortion illegal?
