when they give you the epidural they stick it in the back obviously but most people say it feels cold and hurts. me personally I didn't feel a thing. They laided me back down and put a Catheder in plus and IV. They shave you down there just where the incision will be made so if you don't want them to shave you you should do it ahead of time. The husband gets scrubs to put on while they roll you to the surgery room. when the doctors have you all prepared to start they call in your husband. They put on an oxygen tubes in you nose so you can breath if you have a hard time breathing and one of the first things they do is put a blue sheet hanging over your chest so you can't see a thing of what is going on. You will just notice your body rocking or moving but you won't feel it. You will have or at least I did, have a male nurse standing right by your head to keep you up or just if you need something. They usually strap down your arms to the table but they didn't to me, it all depends on how you react with the whole situation. Once the baby is out they let you see him or put him on your chest and then they clean him off. After they finished with me, i got to go to a little room right next to the surgery and the lady was showing me how to take the baby a bath and she gave him to me so i can give him his first breastfeeding. Once we were done then I got to go back to the hospital room and enjoy our time with the baby. They come every so many hours and give you medication for pain if you need it and they will start having you sign papers and taking the baby for circumcision and shots. Thur out the night they will also check on you and the baby. they give you soup the majority of the time for the first night because of they don't want you to poop quite yet and your stomach is sore even if you don't feel it. The next day after delivery, the ask you to start walking slowly and take your shower they willl assist you if you want but they want you to walk. The day you leave the hospital and usually your stay at the hospital is about 3days to monitor the incision and your baby. The day you leave they will take our your staples or what ever they put there, she tells you that you may feel a pinch but I didn't feel a thing because the area where they cut is usually numb, after two years I still can not feel the cut. That is basically it. not a big deal just be calm and know you can always ask for pain meds if you needs some and if you feel other symptoms like itching then you can have benyadrl to help out they always have other meds that can help out with pain. They give you a prescription which i recommend you to get right away.

When i got my c section, they shaved me and put in my IV and catheter in. They took me into the OR while my husband got dressed. I got a spinal tap, not epidural. It was just a shot in my back. they layed me down gave me some oxygen. then put the sheet up and made sure i was numb and then began the surgery. It took very little time and before i knew it our daughter was here. they sewed me up, i didnt receive staples just stitches on the inside and steri strips on the outside.

once they were done i was wheeled to the recovery room. By like an hour after I had my daughter my spinal had worn off and i could move my body again. I had to stay in bed 12 hours though. When iw was able to get up they took out my catheter and i was able to take a shower. Everything was great from then on. I really didnt need the pain meds and i was up and walking around. The only thing that hurt me was laughing and coughing.

But other than that I had a really great team of doctors and really good recovery!

My youngest child was delivered by c-section due to being breech. I was 5 cm dilated and the whole time the docs thought they were feeling her head, they were feeling her butt (lol). Thank god at the last minute she ran her foot across my nurses fingers. They rushed me to have the c-section. The scar isn't bad at all, its called a "bikini cut" , but the healing process after a c-section is a lot worse (in my experience) than a vaginal delivery. The spinal was also very painful, but it could have just been the fact that I was so tense and nervous. I'm hoping to have a vaginal delivery with my newest edition (due March 24th).. The pain of labor is worse than just having the child taken out of you, but the healing is so much easier with a vaginal delivery. you are on your feet within a few days. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I had an c- section with my first child in january and now im scheduled to have another one this month on the 22nd. Everything went smoothly the first time except i kept having the shakes i was freezing, later on i found out that was a side affect of the epidural. So i really recommend everyone pregnant women to find out everything about medicines during labor and c- sections because you need to know whats going on so it won't scare you later when your going into labor.

My son was delivered c-section. I was in labor for 19 hours, pushed for 3 an he wasn't budging. Went into labor at exactly 36 weeks. He was born 6lbs 4oz, pretty healthy but he had premature lungs so he was in the NICU for a week.

Docs said I am not a good candidate for VBAC because he really wasn't that big and he wouldn't fit under my pelvic bone. They did say it's up to me, but it's highly unlikely to be a success. Just going c-section again. When my son was born I was exhausted from pushing and getting no where for so long. I really couldn't enjoy the birth. I know what to expect now and I think this time might be better.

o my question is: right after they get the baby are you allowed to breast feed then?? or do u have to hand your baby off to someone in order to be stitched up? I really want to breast feed and someone said they allow you some time. But i would like to know other peoples experiences...Also, do they put you under to stitch you up, or are u awake just like the delivery??

i dont think u have to be dialated at all. That is my guess. I asked the maternity ward nurse if i was having a c section did i have to labor at all before they would start the c section and she said no, not at all.

A spinal is just an injection into your back with medicine that wears off in like 2-3 hours. An epidural goes into your back it is hooked up to medicine and it continuously flows.

If you are wondering which one you want, I suggest the spinal. I have had both and I liked that i was able to feel my body soon after having my daughter. With the epi they tend to keep it in longer and you arent able to move. Now if you hurt and you have an epi you can press it for pain. But you can't get up and move. With a c section you want to walk as much as possible and as soon as they let you walk do it! Your recovery will be alot smoother. I was up at 12 hours after i had my daughter and I barely hurt and healed amazing. Now of course everyone is different.
