re: Having a C-section? Q&A and chat *here*

I haven't heard about the tea or ice chips causing that, but I'm sure if the instructor said it, it must work for some people. But yeah, I agree, the only thing I've heard is getting up and walking around as soon as you are able. I remember my nurses pushed me to do that. I don't even remember getting ice chips right after my c-section, but I was pretty drugged up...

I did not get ice chips with either one of mine. I did get to eat as soon as I got to my room room.

i didnt get ice chips with mine either. and didnt get to eat real food till the next day, all i got was broth, but honestly i didnt have a appetite the whole time i was in the hospital

Maybe the ice chips is old school now? haha.

I'll bring the tea just in case and definitely try the walking. Thank you, ladies!

Well I definitely remember having ice chips while in labor...yeah put the tea in your bag- doesn't hurt.

i never even went into labor, my c section was scheduled, so that could be why   not to mention EVERY hospital is different

that was the question I asked my OB before I even went in for my c-section was when can I eat after. LOL He was like whenever you want. hahaha. I don't think I ate until dinner though after my section that morning.

I had an elective c-section two months ago. Dr. said baby was going to be too big so I had already planned this. However, my daughter arrived 5 weeks earlier and I had the choice to deliver naturally or via c section. I thought about it for awhile but went with the c-section. I didn't even know I was in labor until 2hours before they did the c-section. They couldn't give me anything for the pain so I had contractions that ended up 1minute apart by the time I was on the operating table. The spinal was the best thing ever. The surgery was over very quickly. The worst thing was the smell of burning flesh when they made the cut. But I didn't feel anything, not even pressure and I wasn't strapped down or anything. THe whole thing took less than ten minutes. I got to see my daughter right after she was born (but didn't get to hold her till I was out of recovery. I was very emotional when they took her and she didn't cry at first which scared me.

I was in recovery for about half an hour (they let you go to your room as soon as you can move your legs) I was offered soup and gingerale and even solid food when I went to my room but I wasn't hungry and had NO appetite the entire time I was in the hospital and for several weeks afterward. The worst part is when they make you get up and walk around for the first time. I was SO sore. And even though I was on pain meds (motrin) it was agony to get up and walk to the bathroom. But I will say that I would have a c-section again if I ever decided to get pregnant. Those two hours of labor pains were MUCH worse than anything I felt after my c section. You are just very sore and tender afterward. It is difficult to hold my daughter at times because she kicks her legs around the area they made the cut and that hurts.
I had NO help at all starting the day I got home from the hospital so I was up and moving around and doing housework and picking up my daughter etc by myself even though the dr. advised me not to. Didn't have any complications from the surgery.

I wasnt' allowed to eat or drink or even chew gum before hand (for 8 hours) so I was starving and SO thirsty before I went into surgery but afterward I didn't want to eat anything. They did give me ice and water and ginger ale for the next three days though.
It is eight weeks later and I haven't started working out or anything and sometimes certain jeans rub my incision and it becomes sore but other than that I am almost totally healed. If anyone has any questions about the procedure or recovery let me know  

I had a c-section with my first baby and I was upset about the whole thing. Later on my husband and I watched a documentary called "The Business of Being Born." It was very educational. With my daughter I was a week over due and I was supposed to be induced, but I went to the hospital with contractions 3 minutes apart just 4 days before the induction. I was dilating slowly and after about 4 hours, a nurse comes in and says, "We're going to speed things along with this pitocin." It being my first labor I had no idea of side effects or anything. Then an hour later my doctor comes in and breaks my water and says she should be out in about 4-5 hours. 5 hours later a bunch of nurses rush in and they are putting oxygen on me and telling me to roll over to my right side. They inform me that the baby's heart rate keeps dropping. After an hour and a half, the baby's heart rate drops during every contraction. After an hour of that, my doctor says we need to do a c-section in order to have her come out crying. Anyway, she came c-section and I was really bothered about it because I had had a very healthy pregnancy and there was no risk of a c-section (Total labor was 23 hours, that is including the contractions at home). Anyway, after watching that documentary we realized that we got cheated. Pitocin speeds up the contractions and makes them longer in duration so while your baby is trying to recover from one contraction another one starts and it doesn't give your baby the needed rest, which causes fetal distress and most times leads to a c-section. I know a few women who get induced with Pitocin and don't have a problem, but we think that's what caused my c-section. When I was pregnant with my boy, I informed my doctor I will not be using any drugs and I wanted to deliver vaginally. I did end up using an epidural after 12 hours of hard labor (20 hours of contractions at home first and then my water broke) when I was dilated to an 8, but I told them no Pitocin the whole time and we delivered vaginally. Make sure if you are being induced to research the inducing drugs. Be sure that it is really what you want to do. After I had my baby boy, I was euphoric and I wanted to walk right out of the hospital because we delivered him the way we wanted. :0) Also, I recommend watching "The Business of Being Born" to everyone. It's very insightful!

I was told by my dr that due to my size (I'm only 5'0) that I had a 50/50 chance of having to have a c-section. I was scared and cried that afternoon because I had heard nothing but horror stories from friends that had to have c-sections. I was induced and ended up having to have an emergency c-section due to my daughter's heart rate dropping. I can honestly say that the induction was the worst part of my whole experience. I was so ready to get up and out of the hospital bed by the time they allowed me to get up. I am scheduled for another c-section with my son and I am not worried at all.

I have a bone disorder that would make it very difficult to deliver naturally so my Dr planned a c section. I also cant have the epidural bc of how much scar tissue is in my back it would be to risky and i don't want to take the chance. But i don't want to be completely knocked out bc i want to be conscious for the birth of my baby. I'm so nervous, i have 14 more days and i'm trying to read up as much as i can.
