re: Having a C-section? Q&A and chat *here*

Quoting Riley♥Olivia:“ I had a breech baby. In my eyes, having a c-section is much more safer than trying to turn the baby. ... [snip!] ... So believe me, it's okay! I loved my c-section. I was never really bed ridden afterwards, Not very sore, it wasn't too bad.”

That's what my doctor told me   The idea of going in and having her on schedule is setting in.

Im just wondering about the process afterwards, How soon do you get to see your baby? Do you get to see your baby before anyone else besides SO? How soon can you start feeling normal not groggy after the surgery? Pain after coming home, is obvious but for how long is the average time? Can you get your "abs" back after having a c section? How does the scar look afterwards? lol

Sorry so many questions!

I saw her for a minute or two before they took her out to the nursery. my SO went with her, we agreed that no one held her besides him before me. I was in recovery for about an hour, I had to be able to wiggle my toes before I could go into my room. I was pretty awake afterwards, especially for it being 4am, ahha.

My scar is small, right above my pelvic bone.

My first was scheduled a few days before it happened because at 41weeks I was still not dilated and nothing was happening. I'm thankful that we went that way because inducing me could have & I think more than likely would have ended in an emergency c-sect. She was 8lbs. 14oz.. This time, it was automatic c-section bc of the risk with twins. I wouldn't have gone any other way if they had asked. I've always wanted to go natural, but when that time comes it might not be the best way for you. So don't be broken up because you don't get the "natural" experience. Afterwards is definitely different though. They show you your baby a min or so after they are born and they usually let daddy hold baby and take pics. Then they are taken to the nursery to get the APGAR and what not while you go to a recovery area. You'll spend some time there...can be an hour or longer depending on your condition. Then they take you back to your room where they will bring baby. I think by then, you can choose wether or not you want to be alone with baby & daddy. I mean, I'm sure people can be with you as well...there was a room full after the twins but I didn't get to see them for 6hrs. so people had come up to see not knowing they were in the nursery but more than likely you'll get baby asap. Then once the drugs wear off you'll feel sore..and pain meds are your friend. If they offer them, I'd take em! Get up and walk as soon as your allowed. Typically you need to pass gas or accomplish getting up before your allowed anything with substance, but not always. SO eat good the day before. Once you're up take it slow...don't rush it. Take advantage of the nurses and staff to help you heal as much as you can while you are there. You'll probably stop feeling the affects of anethsia by the next day. At home, it takes a while to get into things and taking care of baby while in pain, but in I say, a week things get better. Again, take it easy because you really don't want to pop the scar open or anything. It's not the end of the world if you do, just longer healing. And my first scar was practically invisible. I got my body back fast...you'll probably have to work to get the abs...but it can happen. It's a breeze once it's all done. You'll think back and say well that was easy. Just keep your mind on your baby and it eases your nerves! Good luck!

I was so excited my first time. At that point, I just wanted to meet my daughter and it didn't seem like it was ever going to happen. Knowing that she had to come out eventually got me excited. I didn't sleep the night before. This time, I was fine up until they were wheeling me out the room to go to the OR. I started getting nervous but once I was settled in OR, I was fine. The anethesiolgist said I was calmer than most!

That was only for the second c-section. My first one I had been in the hospital in labor all night before I was rushed in for an emergency c-section. It happened so quickly, we didn't have time to grab the camera anyway though. I looked super crappy.

I may have to have a c-section and i'm sooooooooooo worried, upset, scared. I was hoping for a water birth but now I have been told my placenta is particially covering the cervix, i will prob have to have a c-section.That isnt what I wanted at all so I'm very upset. I really hope that if I have any more children in the future, I am able to have a vaginal birth then. Xx

some stuff on this post is really scary! i don't want a c-section but my obgyn just told me friday that because of my shape i may not be able to have a vaginal birth depending on the size of the baby. so they're sending me for an ultrasound at 38 weeks. now i'm praying she's small enough so i don't have all this stuff worrying me!
