nice. there are some things on this site that are definitely CPS worthy. although IMO there's a big difference between saying "CPS SHOULD be called" and saying "I'm going to call CPS". Like with the LNFP situation...based off of the limited information i have from the internet how the hell am i going to track these people down enough to call?

Heres my take-

I have never had CPS called on me.. but I also dont give anyone a reason to have it called on me. While people might use CPS as a weapon.. is it not also the fault of the person who is being called on? They are conducting themselves in a manner that is leaving themselves open to being reported.

I agree that too many people use CPS erroneously- but most normal "act right" people dont have CPS called on them...

Am i making sense?

yeah the neighbors hated my friend, so they called cps and told them her son runs around the front yard with big tarantulas and snakes all over him     

My sister lived with her at the time and had tarantulas, in tanks, in her locked room and her son never went near them.

Hmmm I haven't seen many of those but I agree. And this "c) act morally superior" just pisses me off in general because I see soooo many women on here act they are perfect mothers 24/7/365 and want to call someone out for doing something that they wouldn't so but not something endangering a child  

So where's the thread that inspired this?

As for your question, I've said I was going to call CPS once, and I did. The situation definitely warranted it. The mother of an infant said that the father was hitting the baby. As a mandated reporter, by law I HAVE to call if I suspect abuse or neglect.

I do agree though that it's way overused on this forum. I think a lot of it has to do with the whole "holier than thou" mentality. Everybody has their own ideas about what is acceptable parenting and what isn't. Just because you don't agree with it, doesn't mean it's abuse or neglect.

I've only been tempted to call CPS once-IRL. Luckily, I wasn't the only one who noticed problems, and the grandparents became involved and called them.

But online? Seriously? Who calls CPS on somebody on a forum? What a waste. I can't believe people are clogging the CPSlines with BS while kids who really need help are falling through cracks left and right.

We had a lady here a few weeks ago who called 911 because her neighbor's dog wouldn't stop barking.   This reminded me of that. Idiots.

i think that it was very well said cause ALOT of people say they should call CPS and blahblah yet the situation is not THAT serious ORRRRR you go bck and see that they posted something where CPS could be called a day before or something!

i have seen children in bad conditions but would not call cps just because i KNOW how bad the system is therefore they are actually better off with thier parents!

Well, I agree in a sense. They've done something that made someone threaten to call. However, we all do stupid things, we just generally don't post about them and subject ourselves to the shit we know we'll get for it because some people are overly judgmental and, well, idiots. So, I mean, I think we've all done something that at least one idiot would take exception to and tell us we're bad moms for, so if it's not really, really serious, I don't think someone should be attacked just for admitting to it.

I linked the thread in on the first page, but the gist is someone said they would have called CPS on a woman who had kids with cavities and fed the kid junk food.

I think we can all agree that's not the best parenting, but CPS is a huge stretch.

I completely agree with you. There are instances that warrant it. There are also instances where it is completely ridiculous to even suggest calling CPS.

From some classes I took on the subject (since I am going to be a teacher, they train us how to catch abuse) we were told that we had to make sure that we had documented proof before reporting. If we don't, and we call anyone, it can make it difficult if the situation ever happens again. For instance, I think little Johnny is being abused physically by his father, but I don't have any proof. If I call and say that I think he is being abused and they rule that he isn't, the next time it happens, it will be that much harder to get the case through since its already been looked at once.

I read some of that, and I agree with you. It's not a good thing what she did, but the child is not in harm or in danger... besides of maybe losing his teeth. But he is not abused. Reading that just pissed me off.

So you mean just in relation to the internet and "Imma gonna call CPS"-

I think fault can lie with the admitter of said "bad mom act" - because anything in written form can be misconstrued by its reader (thats why I never air my dirt on here) - threating to call CPS on BGis the same as telling someone to go take care of their kids .. to me its futile insults

There is no guidline for morals...we all have our own. Just b/c it isn't the same as some doesn't make it wrong.
