I am so excited about this new sub forum and this thread. Except I don't know how in the world I am going to be able to keep up with all the threads I am invovled with already. LOL

Sam - Sorry I have no idea on how to get him to stand and walk for you. Kelly "just did it" one day. She had been cruising the furniture and her toys for awhile and one day when our in-home teacher was here with the speech therapist (go figure), Kelly just walked to me from standing at her toy after I put a piece of paper that she wanted on my head. (The girl is a paper ADDICT! LOL) And from there just to get her to walk we just pulled out paper and enticed her with it. Now if only we could figure out how to get her to eat without a fight, I would be in 7th Heaven!

Oh and the eyesight thing. When Kelly was 6 mos old she went to the opthamologist and he said she had a stigmatism in both eyes and was really farsighted. He said all babies are born farsighted but grow out of it by the time they are 2-3 mos old. It was as if hers didn't get any better and actually got worse. He warned us that she would probably be wearing glasses by the time she was 12 or 18 mos. He had us bring her back at one yr and they seemed to be getting better on their own. And when she went in for 18 mo check, the were perfect! Even the a stigmatism was clear. It was as if her eyes did a complete 180. He didn't even need to dilate her eyes the last time. Now she doesn't have to go back until she is 2 1/2 and once a year from now on. So it is totally possible for their eyes to correct themselves.

Thank you for telling me that about Kelly's eyes! I have been so worried about Spencer's eyes. I hope they correct themselves. It worries me about him possibly having to get glasses at such a young age.

You're welcome!
I do know of a few kiddos that did have to get glasses pretty early. But I also know a bunch of other kiddos that had their eyes do the same thing as Kelly's.

The way her eye doc tried to explain it (cause you knoooow how docs have to have an explanation for everything) is since everything with her is slow... teeth, digestive system, etc... her eyes were just slower in developing than typical kids.

I hope all night tonight she kicks the living smurf out of her, and all the way up to when she dies.

That smurfing smurf.

That's what she said. And all because she got amnio conf. that her baby has Ds.
But then over the course of the day yesterday she came on told everyone that her MIL is going to adopt. I don't know how believable that is, but I am just praying that she does the right thing. There was also another mommy on there trying to get this girl to let a family that she knows to adopt the baby.

Just going to have keep praying. That is all we can really do. I got so upset and wrapped up in this yesterday, it was really depressing.

i am so flipping annoyed right now with our "local group" ...we went to a buddy walk meeting yesterday and just were curious about a few different things like why our buddy walk doesn't have teams and doesn't seem to focus on pledges etc...
their answer, they aren't doing the buddy walk to raise a ton of money because the more money they raise the more hassle it becomes since they want to maintain being a non profit...asking about doing the pledges online, having a paypal account...not interested in that because they have to give a chunk of the profits out to those internet companies...(do they think the internet is a fad? what gives?)
mike about had a coronary right there since...they were so dead set against doing things that would bring money in...they wanted to get sponsorships instead which yes, is important but in this economic times you'd have better luck with pledges than anything else.
its not the parents of kids with ds that need to be educated about ds...its everyone else who needs to be educated! even with all the information out there, people are still so ignorant about ds. i totally was ignorant about it until it hit me dead in the face...if we educated those who don't have it, those who don't know people with it, those who would never know anyone with it, then when parents get the news their child may have it, it won't be so scary...i'm just irritated...no instead we'd rather raise the money so we can have our kids go horseback riding (which is great mind you) but we don't want to raise any more to bring awareness since g-d forbid we'd have to make an effort to spend it. arg. sorry just a vent
