I just chuckle and say something to the affect of, "Billions of women have given birth at home, and yet the species survived."

I want a natural birth!
I go to the Dr on Thurs to discuss with him about delivering in the natural birthing center that's in our hospital!
I hope that he consents!!!! He said there are some "in depth" things that they don't do so he needs to talk to me about it. WTH does that mean?! lol

I'm 30 weeks today...10 more to go...wow! anyway I'm starting to get anxious about my delivery. I'm having Aiden at the only standing BC in Georgia! I'm so excited but I still question if I'll be able to handle it. I'm scared I'm not going to be able cope with the pain. I've been exercising and practicing relaxation techniques in my free time. Unfortunately I can't afford to attend any yoga classes (I would really love to) but I am meeting with my support group of ladies due the same month every two weeks now. Is there anything else I can do to ease the stress or am I going to be freaking out til it happens? lol Hope this made sense

Im having a home and water birth! My mom had all natural with all three of us and i always said i was gonan do that. Then i said i was never going to have kids b/c i hate hospitals. But it took me untill my sister had my nephew alittle over 4 years ago to find out about home birth. She told me all about it and fell inlove with the idea. She just had my neice also at home in March. I love my midwide and HATED my doc in the beginning. Im so excited to be going threw this. Also I know some great books if anyone wants to know about them.

Welcome ladies!
Kari, I know our culture has trained us to mistrust our bodies, and to doubt our ability to survive childbirth without pain releif. What a crock!
If you spontaneously went into labor in the middle of the woods, with no such thing as pain releif in sight, you would absolutely go through labor drug free, and come out on the other side with a happy healthy mom and baby.
It is doable. One contraction at a time. It WILL NOT kill you. Period. Which means you CAN do it!
The thing you have to remember is that in the thick of contractions, you only deal with one at a time... and they last about 1 minute. You can do ANYTHING for one minute. And then you get a break in between. When the thought crosses your mind "I cant do it" just think... well I AM doing it! No contraction can be stronger than you, because it IS you.

IF you have your mind in the right place regarding birth, you are empowered and you beleive in yourself and you can put mind over matter and will your body to RELAX during each contraction, welcome it and allow it to do it's work, you will be just fine. One at a time is all you have to deal with. And when it's over you will say! WOW!! I did that!! And it wasn't as bad as I expected!

Sounds like you are on a great track with your birth preparations, if you find yourself doubting just bust out a good natural birthing book like Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, or Active Birth, or Childbirth Without Fear, and read a few chapters to build your beleif.
Best of luck to you!! I beleive in you.   Having done it twice myself, I know you can do it.

I know i cant wait. I hate that people think im crazy why im doing it. They ask me why i wouldnt want meds and i tell them b/c of what it does to my baby so i think i can stick it out for my kid. I think its selfish when a mama wants meds. You didnt drink while you were pregnant, or smoke, or do drugs, so why would you get meds when in labor??? I dont get it.

HA!   I know...
Not to mention, unmedicated births give you such a "high"... and if you have meds you dont get that. That high is very important for proper bonding and avoidance of PPD.
Everything works a lot smoother if you dont have drugs in your system. The mechanism of labor is a very intricate dance of hormones... and taking away your body's natural feedback system, pain, throws a problem in the cycle.

What kills me is when women get the drugs BEFORE they even feel pain just b/c everyone tells them "birth is painful." Yeah b/c of they way you had your baby! uuugh! Me and my sister go for hours talking about this.

Yeah...I too have the conversation with friends who got medicated, but anymore it's just negativity I don't need. Also, my aunts believe they had "natural" childbirth even though one was induced by having her water broken and pitocin drip. And the other was in the lithotomy position both times for her 4 hour labors. What would it have been for her had she really been allowed to have a natural childbirth??! Like an hour? But I didn't say that to her.

I know natural birth is the way I want to go. I try to give information to others if it might help them. I guess I can understand it's not for everyone. And I have to leave it there, or I'll just waste my energy.

Yeha i dont explain myself to people that dont ask. They say there comments and i say "well thats you." And if they do ask i dont judge people that were medicated. Not to them at least
