I everyone, i am 30 weeks pregnant with my second child. I am looking for information and advice on having a birth without an Iv in. With my first i was induced and hopefully this time around that wont be needed. I was watching The business of being born earlier and it really got me wanting to deliver without and IV so i can be free to move around whenever i want. Have any of you done this and do hospitals let you chose to have one or not? thanks in advance.

Hello ladies! I am 14 weeks pregnant and really want to try to deliver my son without an epi. The birth of my first son was pretty traumatic, and I want to do everything in my power to avoid that situation. I don't have many people who can help give me advice on these things, and I have an OBGYN not a midwife, so I would love some tips on how to be prepared (practices and such) to have this baby naturally. Any tips/ support would be great!

Oh that sounds wonderful!! I plan to soak in my tub in some warm water for as long as possible before I go into the hospital.

I think laboring as long as you can at home is a great idea. I think it would be more relaxing and that's the key to getting baby in the right position to come out. relaxation and just taking ques from your body.

I'm hoping I give birth in the tub, but they say that since FTMs usually labor longer, their babies don't normally don't come out in the tub. So I have to fight the urge as long as I can. Lucky me they have a shower in the room as well, though, so I can just jump in there when I have the urge to get in the tub.

i had a water birth with my second after not having been educated on anything got the epidural with my first.. i had way more complications with my firsts delivery. i tore really bad along with having an episiotomy and i blacked out for like 2 seconds but still.. and everything hurt way worse after.. with my second i had the water birth.. no pain after no big needles i could get out of bed and walk around. and i didnt tear or need an episotomy.. i highly recommend a water birth. i will be doing another with my third. after my experience with my first the epidural is no where close to an option for me. i loved being able to feel the pain. you feel so much more accomplished.   my water birth wasnt any faster or slower than the epidural..

I would like to know how many people delivered with midwives in-hospital and were happy with that? To me, they are a very different kind of midwife. I've been seeing a hospital midwife group for the first two trimesters, but I am in the process of switching over to a non-hospital birth center this week. I am still really unsure if I am making the right decision! If I stay with the other group things would be simpler (insurance and costs, especially) and part of me wonders if I just hired a doula in addition if that would be as good?

i had a midwife in the hospital i loved her. she is who i go to for all my appointments and i havent had any second guesses about her. they dont push you to do anything... i read somewhere that OB/GYN's are surgeons... trained to cut.. midwifes want the ALL natural way.. i say go midwife before OB/GYN..

My midwife does only home births. But I know some friends who saw "medwives" as we like to call them here lol.. and all of them ended up being induced, only one birthed vaginally   they said the midwife seemed more interested in following everything the hospital was saying vs. doing what the mom wanted.

But every practice is different, do what feels right in your gut.. not what is easiest payment wise

Yes, so happy I switched and completely at peace now after several "real midwife" appointments. A night and day difference compared with the hospital midwives! Also, I found out later that the hospital where I would have delivered has the highest intervention rate in town, OB-wise, and those midwives were still working under an OB, so...

Hi everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm due Sept. 12th, 16 weeks along and I'm planning a natural birth with a midwife at a birthing center. I adore my midwife so far, I'm really glad that I made the switch from an OB to her. The difference just blows me away.

I'm really looking forward to having a natural non-medicated non-induced birth this time! Last pregnancy, I was induced a week early due to the doctors time schedule( ) and had an epidural. The epidural was a horrible experience for me because it made me throw up consistently and the needle had to be stuck in multiple times. It was totally pointless because they ended up taking me completly off of it because I couldn't push, so I felt everything anyways. I feel like I can take the labor head on naturally and have a way better experience! I'd love to be able to walk around and deal with the pain without the help of narcotics. If anyone has any advice, I'd gladly take it. ^.^
