Try get you birth plan photocopied on A3 paper and stick it on the wall on your room as well as have copies to give to nurses and doctors. Try get hold of the DIANATAL GEL. This will minimize pushing time and by 30% or more! It will give you confidence and the more you understand the process and stages of birth, the more confident you are with breathing through contractions, the more doctors will understand that you know what you doing and respect you decision. Sometimes cerain medication (they say) speeds up the birth process, but remember - no drugs, contraction time speeds up, less need for intervention - end up with perfect natural birth!

This has to be some of the BEST advice I've been given so far. Thank you so much! I'll definitely do the birth plan photocopies and look into the gel.

I am glad that my advice and experience has helped, really I am. You are better off with a natural birth... Just be confident as you go into it and have knowledge of the different stages (which will give you even more confidence). Goodluck and definitely please let me know how it goes!

Can you tell us more about the dianatal gel? What's in it, and how does it reduce pushing time?!

Never even heard of it.

I don't think it's something available in the US. Sounds interesting though

I had the best birth plan with #2 and just changed dates and such for #3. My computer crashed a few months back, now the file is gone and I can't find a hard copy anywhere. I forgot which site I used as my jumping off point when I wrote it, anyone have a good start for me?

Dianatal® Obstetric Gel – Helps Prevent Birth Trauma and Protect the Perineum

Dianatal® is a gel that eases vaginal delivery and helps to protect the perineum by reducing the friction between the baby and the birth canal during both stages of labour. Dianatal® Obstetric Gel has been developed and evaluated by obstetric specialists and has been used widely in Europe since its launch in 2007.

New mum Christine Leighland used Dianatal® to ease her second birth:

“Dianatal® helped me deliver our second baby faster than the first, with less tearing and pain despite the baby being 1.15kg heavier! Because of this, I was up and about within three hours and enjoying our new son from his first few moments of life. I left hospital earlier than we had planned, with fewer ongoing physical problems than after my first delivery.
I’m absolutely convinced Dianatal® should be provided as an option for all childbirths, similar to the way that pain relief is offered today.”

Keep in mind I used DIANATAL GEL and requested to be discharged from hospital ASAP after the birth as I don't like hospitals.

I was admitted at 19h00 on the 9th June 2012. Gave birth at 23h45 and was discharged on at 12h00 on the 10th June 2012.

I walk straight out the hospital with people in just staring. Even the sisters in the maternity ward couldn't believe it. I didn't even stay for lunch!

I tried looking for the Dianatal Gel here in the US but, I'm not sure if they have it. Where would I look for it? Do I have to ask my MW about it first? Is it safe to use it in the water? As I'm having a Water Birth. Well... maybe I won't need it since I will be in the water lol but it would be nice to know if it can be an add on.

I found out about the gel by pamplet in my doctors waiting room. I had to request a pharmacy to order it in for me.

The gel should be available in USA. I mean, I lived in South Africa and got hold of the gel.

Email the main distributor in Europe and request a contact in USA to purchase from.

From what I know, you can use the gel in a water birth... But just double check as the gel is not cheap

Thank you!
I hope to get a hold of it to help with the natural birth!

I hit 37 weeks pregnant today, I feel like a giant weight has been lifted off me! We are clear to home birth   I am so excited to meet our little one. I'm between 3-4cm dilated, contracting (irregularly), and losing tons of bloody mucus. I think it will be soon
