re: Natural Birth Support Thread!

posted 28th Jun '12
Well, the DH has already asked, but I thought I'd ask too. I have been seeing a county dr for my prenatal exams and had planned on having a freebirth at home. Last week consented to a GBS test. Today I found out that it came back positive. I really don't want to have a hospital birth this time around but if I have to have antibiotics through an IV like she's saying we can't do that at home. Does anybody have any info on the risks, or what else I can do to stay at home to birth instead of giving in to the stupid hospital pushy petes?

My MW just has a person sign a waiver refusing hospital care if a person tests positive. She still attends their home birth.

Maybe have a MW come after? Mine was only there 4 minutes before I fully delivered.

Due to finances and only having 1 midwife in our area we can't afford to have her come unfortunately.

A few articles I read online says that it's not a big deal.

-Mother having a fever during labour (by far the riskiest category)
-Prolonged rupture of membranes - over 18 hours
-GBS found in the mother's urine, not just the vagina
-Mother having had a previous child with GBS disease
-Rupture of membranes before 37 weeks

Thank you! I have lots of research to do, but figured you Mama's would be quick to answer.

My MW was very confident that if mine came back positive I could still have a home birth I trust her. Heck my labor was 45 minutes I wouldn't even had made to a hospital since it was during a snow storm and it's 30 minutes on a good day to the nearest hospital

Very reassuring. Thank you. From what I've read I think it's safe to go ahead and deliver at home still.

Hello ladies,
I had a hospital VBAC with my son and I am expecting again and I am planning another hospital VBAC. I found this website called 'in his hands birth supplies.
I saw they had herbs and stuff for after you give birth to help with discomfort and healing and was wanting to know if there was anything that anyone here recommended.

Personally I wouldn't do UC being GBS positive, but that is ultimately your choice. I"m all about UC but I'm really on the fence about GBS. I know the antibiotics they administer aren't always effective and I also know that transmitting it to infants can be fatal. My advice is to have a MW at the birth, but good luck with your decision.

I find it to be very rude of you to say such a thing. I think that you need to learn a thing or two about manners and RESPECT then GROW UP!
