DONA.org research birth collectives in your area for recommendations. you might also ask at the hospital you are going to deliver at - they often have doulas on staff that would be free or low cost.

Yes dona.org is a great resource... A lot of doulas will work on a sliding scale and some are willing to do payment options. Checking with the hospital is also a good way to go because some doulas do volunteer their services for free at hospitals. Doulas are very worth it for many reasons. Majority of women who have a doula do not feel the need to have an epidural. Best of luck to you!

The hospital I was planning on having my daughter at would require me to have another cesarean, which I only had one with my son because they had induced me and broken my water and I still wasn't dilating. I'm going to a different hospital to give birth because I would really prefer to have a VBAC with no drugs. The original hospital said it's the anisteologists rule for women not to have a VBAC.

Alot of times the WIC office can help you find a Doula and even if you dont get WIC they are sometimes free!!

Get a doula!!! dona.org is a great place to look for one in your area. Have a good support system. It's extremely important to have supportive people there (especially women who have had a natural birth before) to help you manage your pain. Also, "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth," is a must read. Any of her books really. She's incredible. I LOVED her books when I was researching natural birth. I made it thru mine because of all the knowledge and encouragement that book brought me. (And I had an awesome support system during labor and delivery). Best of luck to you!!

Thank you so much! I only know one person that had 2 natural births(in person) but everyone else just keep screaming at me to "TAKE THE DRUGS!" & i'm not comfortable with "taking the drugs" even my own mother is telling me I pretty much HAVE to because I have a low pain tolerance & she BF both me & my brother & is discouraging that too! its crazy

Hey everyone! My due date is Thursday and I am so nervous! (as it should be)
I really want a natural birth. It's going to be in the hospital but I really want that experience of just.. being able to do it. If I can overcome this I can overcome anything. But it doesn't give me much hope when my family is holding bets on how long I can go without the epi. Or putting me down because of it. The BD is very supportive but as far as my parents and grandparents, all they do is basically laugh at me. I would like to think I have high pain tolerance (but nothing can compare to labor, I'm sure) I just wish I had support. And.. it almost makes me want to prove them wrong haha. (Okay now I'm ranting)
OKAY LADIES here's the big question. Every woman has a breaking point. a point where you feel like you can't do it anymore, you're about to give up. What did YOU do to keep going? To keep the motivation to keep turning down the meds?

I laughed at how much it hurt. Laughing really helped. I'd think of rikki lake in business of being born and laugh. I also kept telling myself it was good pain and temporary pain. Good pain doesn't need meds I needed to embrace it. Once I let my body take over and let my mind stop racing it was kind of out of body I don't remember the pain now.
