re: Natural Birth Support Thread!

HHHmmmmm. .
I'm at a loss.
Cramping is normal, but the urge to push sounds strange.
Could it be intestinal, and just feels like its coming from your vagina? Cause even during birth, that's where the urge to push originates from... when the baby's head compresses nerves in your rectum.

I suppose it's possible that it's something intestinal, I've just been feeling like there's something not quite right in my vaginal/uteral area (sorry I know that's broad) and then when I got a uti I thought that explained all the things I thought were weird but now that I've been done atibiotics for a week I'm still getting all these phantom pains. I knew after my first was born I would get phantom kicks all the time but this one just doesn't sound as normal to me. I was hoping it was just something weird but normal that maybe someone had read in some ambiguous place somewhere. I'm stuck in the land of arrogant doctors (not to mention three were charge with sexual misconduct in the last 8 mos) and this was the last thing I wanted to bring up with one of them. But thanks for the info, maybe I'll try more fibre of something.

Strange.
Can you pinpoint the area where you feel the pains if you feel around inside your vagina with a finger? (tmi, I know... lol)
But it might help you to figure out if it's pain in your cervix, or somewhere else, it could be from your UTI, I know some women experience phantom itching they cant scratch that feels vaginal, but really it's urethral... and it's just referred.
?? Sorry I cant be more help! lol

For some reason I want to say it's probably uti related. Have you had any bladder issues since giving birth? Like cystocele?

I can feel that most of the cramping feeling that isn't directly in my back is coming from something related to my perineum because when I put pressure it diminishes the pain. But I am leaning more toward your intestinal hypothesis because on a rare occasion in these last two weeks I've gotten a very intense pain in my right side while having a bm and I actually can't go unless I put counter pressure onthe outside, just above my hip.

No nothing like that. I thought at first that it was uti related to because my last uti, only 4 mos ago, didn't get cleared up with the first round of anitbiotics and so I went to the hospital after three days and they said it was so bad that they would be suprised if it wasn't in my kidneys (which is where I thought my back cramping was coming from). After starting me on IV antibiotics my bp promptly dropped to 56 over 33 so they figured it had been brewing there the whole time and had weakened my kidneys. But this time they did a check through blood and urin after the antibiotics were over and it came up clear. So I'm thinking unless someone screwed up the results then I must be fine as far as that goes. The only issues I ever had after birth was after my first back in 07 when the ob decided he didn't like being peed on and gave me a catheter between pushes (never again!). It took me 8 mos to finally be able to pee without pain. But like I say, that cleared up back in Nov 07 and I haven't had any issues since nor did I have anything like that with my daughter.

That actually sounds like when my ovary had a cyst on it...

I was thinking of asking for an u/s just to be sure, maybe I still should. Thanks

I need a little reassurance. If you don't mind.

I have every right to go to a midwife this late in the game if I want to, correct?

absolutely! you could change your mind a week before your due date even if you wanted, as long as there was a midwife he would take you on that late. you're not too late at all. just over 20 weeks somewhere?? with my first i transferred to my birthing center at 21 weeks.

I'm 27 weeks. The midwives I found are in the same hospital that I am being seen right now by an ob/gyn just a floor below. So I don't think it would be a problem. I mean they have my records and everything. I'm in the system. I would just go to a different floor. So it shouldn't be too much of a problem, right?
