Macrobid... now im scared!

posted 12th Mar '09
I have a UTI and the doc prescribed macrobid. She said its safe during pregnancy, but when i went online there are a ton of posters on different websites that claim the drug killed their babies. They said they were fine till they took meds and their babies died within a few days of taking it. Now im scared. Ive just began to feel my baby move and hearing those stories really freaked me out. I know i cant let an infection go but now im nervous. One lady said her baby had a stroke in utero and she strongly believes it was because of this medicine. How can i take a medicine that other mothers are saying do not take??

honey I was on it from 25 weeks on up till when I delivered with toxemia at 34 weeks. My daughter was fine. Ask for Keflex if you're not comfy with macrobid.

macrobid is completely safe.!i had 8 UTI'S before i was 15 weeks andso they prescibed it to me to take everyday until ihad him.they took me off it in my third trimester though and put me on a more general antibiotic because in your thrid trimester it isn't safe.but i took it for 3 months straight and my baby is perfectly healthyas far as we know.!!!!

Well ... Im allergic to keflex and anything in the cephlasporin family. I am not allergic to penicillian but supposingly this drug is supposed to be milder. Other sites say its safe. I dont know what to think at this point. I would call and ask for something else but then i read that the amoxicillian antibitotic is even stronger and i was just on amox for a skin infection.

Yeah I know that the FDA gives it a rating of B. It was just the posters on different sites that scared me. They swear up and down that this drug killed their babies. They said their babies were fine till they took it. Im sure there might of been other factors or just a coincidence that this happened while they were on the drug.. it just makes me nervous now because what "if" it was the drug?

I was on Macrobid also, I did lose my son, but it was not related to the Macrobid. It was a cord accident, I took it from about 10 weeks on because of my UTI wouldn't go away!

ETA: I was a little over 20 weeks when I lost him!!

Sorry for your loss. You don't believe the medicine had anything to do with it?
