I know for sure he got tangled in his umbilical cord and it had a huge knot in it. It was 100% from the cord accident!!

Quoting Brooke (It's a girl!):“ I'm interested to know... those who said not to take it.. is there a reason that you say that other then that im worried about it? or did you have an experience?”

I would seriously suggest you call your doctor tomorrow. Or call the after hours line tonight.

Macrobid is safe during a healthy pregnancy but there are always risks to take different medicines. However, there is even a risk to let an infection go untreated early on in pregnancy....

Well i wouldnt call the after hours line because its not really an emergency. I'm just trying to find out if maybe what im hearing is from just coincidence with women taking it... because other women seem to take it just fine. Im not going to let the infection go, but im wondering whether this is the best choice. I figure the doc wouldnt prescribe unless she thought it was okay. I shouldn't read online because it always has this fear effect.

this is scary, I just finished my macrobid about a week ago. I checked online and it said it was safe and just to be safe I asked the pharmacist before I took it.

So far baby is doing fine, he still beating up my ribs like no tomorrow.

If you are concerned ask your doctor for a different prescription or get the cranberry AZO.

I have taken macrobid from conception until D Day with all three babies. I have prone UTIS that can turn into kidney infections in the blink of an eye (Which can kill your baby) so I would suggest taking it   The doctor wouldn't give it to you if it was not okay. Cranberry will do NOTHING to cure a UTI only help prevent future ones. My UTI turned into a kidney infection over 36 hours at 26 weeks, landed me in L&D for 10 days because of a fever of 105 and elevated blood counts and contractions.

"Just FYI on this subject since I got prescribed the same stuff. I have heard the negative stories and after performing online research and speaking to several pharmacists here is what I came up with. Macrobid IS safe to take during pregnancy UNLESS you are in the last 2-4 weeks of pregnancy for the same reason that Macrobid is not used in infants. This being the reason stated:

"Neonates (babies up to the age of one month) have immature enzyme systems in their red blood cells (glutathione instability) and nitrofurantoin must therefore not be used because it can cause haemolytic anaemia. For the same reason, nitrofurantoin should not be given to pregnant women after 38 weeks of pregnancy, or who are about to give birth."

So yeah, long story short: If you're in the last 2-4 weeks ask your Dr. for something else.

I'm on Macrobid right now as a precautionary measure b/c luecocites were found in my urine today, and I feel feverish w/ low/mid back pain. Still waiting on my urine culture to find out what's really wrong, but they think it's a UTI/ Bladder thing. I'm just super worried, b/c I had a serious kidney infection a couple months ago in July (before I was pregnant), and I don't want it to be another kidney infection

Quoting Yo Gabba Mom:" Yeah I know that the FDA gives it a rating of B. It was just the posters on different sites that scared ... [snip!] ... a coincidence that this happened while they were on the drug.. it just makes me nervous now because what "if" it was the drug?"

all sites and places including FDA say not to take it during your last 2-4 weeks of pregnancy b4 that it is perfectly fine an safe to take
