Diaper rash by pull ups?

posted 7th Nov '06
Okay, since i don't have anyone around here that can help me, I'm turning to you all once again!   I've noticed that my son's toosh started getting red about a week ago, and ever since it's been progressing. Now, when I change him, he starts screaming bloody murder, it breaks my heart     . He's never had a diaper rash up until now, and i have a feeling it's partly to do with switching him to pull ups, since they both came about the same time. Did any one have this problem?
I started rubbing cream on his toosh, but read an article saying that different rashes require different methods. A dry, ashy rash needs cream, and a moist one needs powder... So i switched to powder, but it still seems to be getting worse. Any body have advise? I want to see the doc but they can't fit us in for another week

I also just noticed that he has little bumps under his genitals... is this normal with diaper rashes?

I dont know about the switching from diapers to pull ups...As sick as it sounds if it isnt going away it could be a yeast infections my 10 month old has had them off and on and u have to go to the dr. an get a cream from them...I would call the doctor...My cousin son also got really bad yeast infections too...Maybe it could be that if it hasnt gone away yet...I would call the dr..Thou maybe reqiure more attention than what u can do...

I would be putting my foot down with them dr..Its more than likely a yeast infections... I would get him in i would walk in and tell them im being a walk in...I really have a feeling thats what it is no cream or powder is going to take it away its gonna keep getting worse...anti fungal creams might work...I used them a couple times before i got into the doctors...And it helps a lil bit but u want to get the cream for the dr...

Or u can take him to the pharmacy and ask them what they can give u for that and they can tell u what u could buy...

Well, I switched him back to diapers last night, and switched him back to cream. 3 diaper changes later, the rash is pretty much all but gone, bumps and all   I'm still going to take him to the dr. and i should try walking in, but i don't know how this office is, i just moved to the area, and i'm a chicken lol. Maybe i'll tell my hubby to do it lol. Either way i'll take him to the pharmacy to see what they recommend for next time (just to be safe). Thanks for your replies!

I would try letting him air out a little. Sometimes that helps.

i know of quite few parents who toddlers got rashes as soon as they went into pullups. i will not be using pull ups for my son becuase of all the problems ppl i know have had. as soon as they stopped using the pullups, the rashes went away.

Well my daughter is allergic to disposables and that bumpy rash sounds like the one she gets from Huggies. She gets a slightly different type from Pampers. Try going from Pull-Ups to Easy-Ups different brands have different things in them. If that doesn't work try the store brands. Sometimes those don't have as much junk in them. She has had some sever reactions from anything with Aloe in it so we can only use Walmarts newborn wipes or my daughter gets a bad rash.

The pullups arent as absorbent as regular diapers. They are made that way to feel more like undies so your little one knows he or she is wet. So if they still go potty in them alot....they need to be changed more often. I found this out with my son, who is almost 3. Now I realized he isnt ready for pullups....which disappointed me....but his rash is gone as well.

My daughter got a terrible rash from pull ups. She is 2 and 1/2 and only wears them at night because she wears underwear during the day but since we started them she has been so red with a rash and always begging me to put cream on her. I am not buying pull-ups anymore. I am wondering if the Goodnights are any better.
