Photo Challenge #3 "Flash Flash Flash"

OK this time we’re gonna work on using our flash, but not just in the normal way. We need to try bouncing, diffusing, coloring, ect.

Pop-up Flash (On board, On Camera) Users - There are several things you can try to do. Try using some tissue or a scarf something white to cover the flash with. Also try using an index card stuck in front of the flash, tilted out some. Then try using different colored materials to cover your flash with. If the material is too thick it will block the flash. Please practice with and with out to see the difference, as well as the different techniques.

External Flash users - Bounce your flash at every angle possible behind you, in front of you, off to the side, ect. Try using a reflector, foam core board’s work great. Point your flash at the foam core board and angle the board towards your subject. Try using different color materials as stated above. If you have a diffuser already please share with us what kind you have, maybe even include a pic of it.

Your fine I just thought it was funny you posted while I was sending her a PM. I PM'd her the info last night for to approve so technically she saw most of it 1st.             

This should be fun!! Question what is the point of putting something in front of the flash like a tissue? what does it do?

It will make the light "softer." It can help to tone down flash and help prevent flash glare. Once you try it, you'll be able to see the difference between a pic with the tissue in front and without it.

I've been working with my flash for a few weeks so I've found the best places in my house for bouncing and such.

These I did in the bathroom, I've found that the amount of natural light really makes no difference in the quality of the light, the flash sort of takes over. I dont have the exact numbers for the flash power, but all these were definitely done between +2 and +3, bouncing off the ceiling. My bathroom has peach colored tile, so that cause the pics to be warmer.

All SOOC

1/160 sec, f/10, ISO 400

So i tried this and WOW it really makes a difference Ill post pictures later on or tomorrow. I really need to get a flash!!

Well here is my SOOC what a difference it makes. i didnt really play with the shutter speed or anything i was just playing with the tissue and lighting so its a bit soft.
Heres my edited one i just blured a little and changed the color to sepia i really like this one

There isnt a touch of reflection in that mirror, were you standing really far away from it? Did you use something to reflect the light?

i was standing pretty far back because my lens wont let me shoot up close and i useda thicktissue over the flash thats all i did.
