Karo Syrup for constipation

posted 6th Mar
I know a lot of you have asked about it, so I wanted to tell you about my experience using it. My 6 1/2 mo. old daughter has been having trouble pooping for about 3 days (she's finally liking her solids). She's been straining so hard she whines and it nearly brings a tear to my eye because I can tell she's in so much pain (and I don't even feel that way when she gets her shots!). Today I changed her diaper and she'd only gone a little---it was so dry I could barely get it off of her. Since juice has made her throw up (projectile) in the past, I decided to try the dark karo syrup. I put 1 tsp. in 2 oz. nursery water. She had a little trouble at first because the consistency is so thin it strangled her a little. Two hours after she just went to the bathroom, it was normal consistency, no whining, and now she's passed out (the pain has caused her to have sleeping issues). So, anyway, I highly recommend it.

where do you get it the grocery store? how much does it cost?
prunes and prune juice work really well for my son and he loves it.

I plan on getting her prunes and making it into babyfood to give alongside her solids. But, her great aunt gave me the Karo Syrup...I'm not sure of the price but I'd say $2-3. And yes, it's at the grocery.

I was thinking of trying this with Kaden but I thought it would be way to harsh. He has to take a Rx for when hecant go poo

It wasn't harsh on Isabella at all, but of course every baby is different. I worried it'd be diarrhea city. From what I read online it mostly helps lube up the intestines and pulls water into them to help ease things out. I'm not sure how often you could use it though.

They can't link any cases of botulism to Karo Syrup.

Her pediatrician recommended it and it works really well. So I'm going to stick with it I think, but thanks.

I tried this because to tell ya the truth my child is a mystery! We have had numerous talks with his Dr. and everything he has said to try really hasnt worked, so I asked him about using the syrup, he said to try it, but to use it in moderation. So we tried 1tsp in a 2oz bottle mixed with his formula, once everyday for about 3 days...it didnt work for him. All it did was make the turds a little slimy, so I stopped and spoke with his Dr again and we decided to change his formula AGAIN...and now its just fine! Ok long story for me just to say that it didnt really work for my baby...but I have known of it working wonders for others! So I say if it works...use it (within moderation)
