Should I go to the hospital?
posted 6th Nov '06
So.. Today is my due date. Yesterday my husband and I went on a mission to try and induce labor. We walked a TON, and even went to this place with a ton of stairs and walked up and down stairs. I also took two evening primrose oil capsules, although those are just supposed to help ripen the cervix, etc. Then, when we went to bed, we had sex. Immediately after sex, I had some pretty strong contractions, which used to be normal, but these haven't stopped.
I went to sleep, and woke up at 3am, still having contractions. I counted them out for about an hour, and they were all 4-5 minutes apart. I went back to sleep and woke up just a little while ago at 6am. Still having contractions. Now they're about 3-4 minutes apart. I also noticed I'm having some bloody show. However, I'm hesitant to go into the hospital because of how slow everything is going, and I don't want to be there forever. Plus, the contractions are more annoying than really painful. I can still walk/talk through them.
So what do you guys think? Should I head to the hospital?
No one is probably on.. but, I'm trying to waste time letting my husband get some more rest. I'm going to call labor and delivery in a bit and get the nurses verdict, but thought I'd ask you guys first!!
I'm so excited, I really hope this is it. Man, am I tired of being pregnant! haha
Thanks guys,
Raen

I don't really have any advice for you but it sounds like to me you need to go to the hospital if you haven't already. IT MAY BE TIME!!! Keep us updated on what happens.

Sorry to say that I have no advice this is mine and my husband's first baby so we are new to this..... but it does sound like if the contractions are 4-5 mins apart you should at least call your doctor's office or the hospital...how exciting!!!!!
GOOD LUCK WITH EVRYTHING!!
LET US KNOW

Argh, I'm glad I called the hospital before I went in. Labor and delivery told me to stay at home where I'm comfortable until the contractions got unbearable... Well, I went to sleep again, since the contractions had been keeping me up all night. And now they've pretty much stopped. So, looks like it was probably a very deceiving false alarm. Which is REALLY frustrating!! So I guess I'm going to do more walking..
This little guy just does not want to come out!

Hehe have sex (as long as your membranes haven't ruptured) and keep on walking girl. My doctor said that sperm contains prostoglandin which can help induce labor. And I know this sounds odd, but nipple stimulation may realease oxytocin which may make your uterus contract maybe helping contractions along.

Wow I know how you are feeling raen1009. I was due on Nov 5th Sunday... But I haven't had any contractions yet... And I have tried EVERY SINGLE way to induce and let me tell ya none of them work haha. I went today to my doctor and they told me I am still just 1 centimeter and to come back again on friday. Hope you have your baby soon raen1009.. Wish you the best of luck.

Thanks everyone for all the good wishes and responses! I wish I could say I've had my baby, but unfortunately no.
My contractions are coming regularly, 2-3 minutes apart, and they last about a minute. We went to the hospital for the hell of it since we were in town, and I was contracting regularly, but after monitoring me for a while the nurse told me that my contractions are good, but my labor isn't progressing, so they sent me home. On the upside, I'm 2cm dilated and 75% effaced... at this rate I might go into actual labor by Friday! haha Until then, all I can do is wait for either stronger contractions, my water to break, or heavy bleeding. I'm hoping my water breaks...
Anyways, just thought I'd update a bit.
fiah85 - oh man! I know how you feel. Before last night I hadn't had any contractions for months. I was pretty sure this kid was just going to camp out inside me 'til college. haha I wish you all the best and hopefully soon things will start moving! If not, well, you can go with the same comfort I try on myself - at least I know it won't be any longer than 2 weeks before I see this little one. They'll induce by 42 weeks! hehe
andypdv2001 - I'll definitely be sure to post all the details! I'm going to try natural, so it'll definitely be an adventure to post! My husband told me tonight he thinks I'm "Super Woman" because of how well I was handling the contractions, so hopefully I can maintain that status for real labor! haha Thank you for your good wishes, and God bless!
Well, hopefully in the next few days I'll have an actual "I had my baby!" post to put up. Gosh I hope so! haha Thanks again everyone for the comments and best wishes! It definitely makes me feel better.
Take care,
Raen

Hey, did you ever work out the issues with the water birth that you wanted? did you buy a kiddy pool to take to the hospital? lol ^_^ I hope you get the experience you want and I hope you go into active labor soon...man, if it takes you till Friday you're going to get incredibly tired of those contractions. lol Heh, I told my husband that when I hit 36 weeks we're going to start walking everyday for as long as I can manage...hopefully that'll help...who knows, maybe I'll get to be like his mother and the kid'll just fall out when I'm at the hospital...lol, And having said that, I've jinxed myself and will probably have the longest labor in the family...besides my aunt, because my hip bones are actually big enough to push out a child. lol ^_^

haha Speaking of jinxes.. My husband and I keep saying that it's our own faults I'm still pregnant. The entire pregnancy we prayed to God for a healthy, strong baby, and well... we've got one! A very full term, healthy, strong, beautiful baby. So I guess we should be more careful with our wording when we pray! haha
Anyways, no, we aren't going to be able to do a water birth. It upsets me.. a lot, but we just couldn't afford any of the birthing tubs, and we just decided that dragging a kiddie pool into the hospital probably wasn't the best of ideas. So, I'm going natural, but not in a tub. I guess I'll just try and stay in the shower as long as possible. They allow us that, at least! Plus, my husband can get in there with me and use the shower head to spray my lower back and abdomen with the water.. which, I'm guessing, will feel really nice. hehe
Hopefully the next time we're pregnant, we can have a home birth, and then I'll definitely do a water birth!!
Take care!

Oh well, that's just the way it goes with the military...you can't always get what you want and there's no way they'll let you do a home birth...Which sucks, Tricare really should let you do what you want. I mean, there's no way I want a home birth, but you should be able to do what you want. Yeah, at least you can stay in the shower. ^_^ Good luck! ^_^

I totally agree with the military and Tricare. My oldest daughter was born in the military hospital in Heidelberg, Germany and it seems that you get what THEY want for you, end of story. But good luck Raen! Let us all know when you head off and fill us in on the new arrival! Good luck!
