Oh I understand trust me! Try using a P&S at your son's soccer game. ACK. I have no luck! But my D80- hot dang you can get is crystal clear ACTION photos- it's amazing!!! I am still looking for a P&S tho- I like having one in my purse. =0) I just hate my Sony. booooo

its on my laptop which is broken, im just using my mom's spare for the time being. im not going to be able to edit anything. booo lol

Amy, I love you! lol I did some more searching on my camera and I found that I can control the ISO, white balance, exposure compenstaion, AF zone, and exposure metering! I changed what I could to the settings you recommended, and in my dimly lit living room (with exposure compensation increased a little) I was able to get clearer pics than what I did this morning. I can't wait to try again tomorrow now!

Although, I think I'm driving my hubby crazy, and I gave myself a headache from the flash and trying to take self portraits. lol

here's whats in my menu.

exposure bracketing
exposure compensation
picture size
white noise
iso speed
focus zoe
color mode
long time exposure
set album (still)

Those are all of the settings on my camera too, but they're named a little differently. Mine in order are:

Exposure compensation
Picture size
White balance
Exposure metering
ISO speed
AF zone
Color mode
Set album (still)

I changed my white balance to auto, exposure metering to center-spot, ISO to 100, and AF zone to center-zone. I also increased my exposure compensation to +1.0 and got some nice pics that pretty good considering it's not very bright in my living room at night.

okay, ill try the other change you recommended. here is what i'm able to get so far. i'll delete them in a bit. i just wanna show how crappy my camera is, or how much i suck at taking pics lol!

Some camera's will only let you get so close before they stop focusing, after that you have to crop to get the framed imaged you want. Try backing up just a little. Or does it make the same beep it makes when you take a not so close up?

it still beeps... so i thought it was still focusing. i dunnoooooo  

oh wait, i think i mighta figured something out. but im gona work on it tomorrow. i can hardly see from the flash in my eyes so much now hahaha

Found a spec sheet on your camera it says your minimum focus length is 23.6 in. Try making sure you are at least 2 feet away from your subject and see what that does.
