You do not need special cameras, expensive lenses to join here. A humble point and shoot is perfectly acceptable. So if you want to be challenged, enjoy talking shop, want to get a better handle on picture composition, learn your camera's controls better - then this is the group for you!

Please be prepared for honesty regarding feedback if you have asked for feedback (if feedback was not asked for- don't offer any ok?). Use nice words and BE nice, but be honest and encouraging.

More deep editing questions need to go to the Photoshop thread. But editing is still a part of the photography world- so just try to balance between both worlds. *wink*

Autumn Series Challenge/Project- anyone welcome to join BUT please read all of the project information before starting.

Fall Challenge:
Autumn Series

This is going to be a4 parter. Long and involved so bear with me. But I think when you are done doing this- you will LOVE what you have created.

Each month (as often as you like) take pictures of FALL.

October - take images and edit
November - take images and edit
December - take images and edit
January - take favorite images from Oct/Nov/Dec and create collage slideshow. Print collage OR a few images from each month and make a collage with an inexpensive collage album (Walmart etc)

After we are done taking and editing our images (YES edit- a requirement) in January we will take those images and create a collage (or for those of you that do not have an editing program- create a slideshow (photobucket and others offer these free). You will take several images from each month. Then put them together to illustrate how the season changes each month in Autumn. And the last part of this challenge. For those of you creating collages- print one. For those of without editing programs or knowledge how to do it- print some of your fav images- buy an inexpensive collage frame from say Walmart and put one together.

There are NO rules regarding editing (except that you must do some sort of editing), or WHAT you photograph but some reflection of Fall needs to be illustrated IN each image. Your kids playing leaves, macro of leaves too, bugs whateverrr....I mean get really creative. Think big AND think small. Get it all!!

Stay organized! Amy's Method (here is what works for me)- I have a folder named 2009. IN that 2009 folder I have a folder for each month. Within each month's folders I have yet MORE subfolders labeled a keyword that tells me what is in that folder- and each time I do a shoot (just snapshots of my kids- I create and label a new subfolder in that month). And this is the same basic method I use for personal images and my client images (but client images have a diff naming system).

BUT for this project to keep it nice and tidy in my 2009 folder- I am going to title a folder named Autumn Series.With subfolders for each month. And I will likely take images almost weekly so I will create a new subfolder IN that month's Autumn Series folder labeled simply the date. (sorta help with time lapsing and date keeping when you set up your finished product). For January my folder name will NOT be January it will be labeled Autumn Series Project.

This will be our first REAL project where we will have something at the end of it. And our art, our vision in print when we are all done.

***Extras. Feel Free to start an album on FB called Autumn Series. If you want to share your Fall love with everyone leave it open for all your friends. You do not have to start an album, though. Optional. And NO CC is permitted in the Autumn Series FB Album- if you want CC use the drop off thread please.Also feel free to share any Autumn image any time in this thread.

I will open up an October, Nov and DecDrop Off Thread (for each month) and then in Dec- I will open a 4th for us to share our final project results. The only real deadline is to take images in EACH month. Then sometime in January share your final results of the end product.

Summer's End

Capture an images(s) that really signals the end of the Summer to you. You can be abstract, nature loving, people person....whatever. It can be a series of images or just a single image that moves you. Feel free to put these on your 365 too to fill up some space. *wink*

Remember...if it doesn't move you, it's not likely to move us. Don't worry about whether or not someone else is going to like it. This challenge is about taking an image that YOU love and that really is personal about what signals Summer's End to you.

Photograpy Challenge #5

Ready for a challenge?

How about self-portraits! No rules other than YOU have to take your own picture (your face has to be in it- but you can be creative with how it's shown!).
Edit as you please or not at all. The challenge is to capture yourself exactly how you want to be seen OR exactly how you'd like to be portrayed. You can do one shot or a small series. Who knows...you may like what you manage to turn out!

Because really...when we take photographs of others- aren't we ssuppose to be mindful of the same thing (lookin' good)?

Try diff angles, lighting, poses...are you going to feel silly? Probably. hehe Doit anyway!

You have a week- so we'll start submitting next Friday. I am not going to put a link for submissions yet- so if you share before I put the link up- you'll have to share it again. But really be thoughtful, creative, take more than 20 shots...take 50, 70 shoot...100! So keep passing this along. I'll update the main thread soon.

Any kind of camera owner welcome to join in. It's not a contest but a challenge. Learning together and most of all...learning about yourself, your camera, your style!

So can we still post pictures and take part in the contests if our pictures are edited? The reason why I ask, is because hubby just bought me lightroom 2. Maybe if we say **this picture was edited**? What do you think?

That's exactly why I started this group- so we can all improve and have fun doing it. The talented gals will inspire us, the beginners will remind us how we got started- it's just good all around! (I'm in the beginner group!) hahaha

I had been thinking on that- I really want new photographers to get a REAL idea of photography. If we show them what our edited photos look like only- they will have unreal expectations, get frustrated and quit. Just like the media makes women look perfect and it's all fake- I want them to be REAL. So I will add in the OP that we need to post unedited photos and then edited- ok?
