Anyone out there have a Zooper Twist?

posted 3rd Nov '06
I feel so funny asking about this, given my very bad experience with my Zooper Salsa. The seller is exchanging it "up" for a Zooper Twist. Apparently, they have had LOTS of complaints about the Salsa, and won't be selling the next model year.
I'm SO hesitatant to even take the Twist out of the box when it does arrive.

SOOOOOO here's the question: anybody have any experience with the Twist? The few reviews I have found have been for the most part positive. My baby is significantly heavy for her age -- 10 months and almost 24 pounds. I hear that the Twist can get hard to push as the child grows heavier, which I'm sure she will. The representative from the store (the store is being VERY gracious in the handling of this exchange) told me that the Twist displays a significant quality improvement over the Salsa. In order to protect this store, I'm not going to mention the name - they have been wonderful.

Any suggestions? Should I sell it on eBay and get the Maclaren Quest I should've gotten in the FIRST PLACE?!?!?!?

The Twist arrived today. I took it out for a spin -- I liked it. Quite a bit! I'm going to reserve judgment for a while, though, but I will write an epinions review when I come to my final conclusion. (I did read that review...thanks!)

First impressions: it is sturdy and easy to steer -- with both my 30 pound toddler and my 24 pound (yes, 24) 10 month old. My baby loves it...she HATED the Salsa. She happily ate her snack on our 20 minute stroll. Also, the seat is nice and large -- both wide and deep. The recline mechanism works well. The hood is generous. I had occasion to use the rain cover today because of the wind, and it was easy to use and she didn't mind it at all. I also used the boot as it was quite chilly with the wind. Nice to have. Big basket, handy storage pocket on the back of the hood. All in all, a good first day out. My husband, who is 6'1" liked the handle height as well...he also thought it was A LOT better.

Oh, and the hood didn't pop off when I closed it.

YES, I really do like it alot!!! It is performing very well. It has been out to the mall, on walks around the neighborhood, etc. many times now. My ever-more-picky 11 month old likes being in it and just isn't pitching the fits that she used to in the Salsa.

No little weird issues have surfaced. I even steered it today one-handed while holding a Starbuck's Peppermint Mocha

You're from Valencia? My husband is Army and we're stationed at Fort Irwin but we're going to LA next week to pick his sister up from the airport. I found online that there's an Earl Of Sandwich there...have you seen it, do you know it does exist? I LOVE that place and have been trying to find one.
Thanks.

Hello there! I have a Zooper Twist as well in Navy. I'm not sure which year model you received I have the 2008. It may be the same as yours. I've had mine for a almost 2 months and have been pretty happy with it. Our babies are about the same in age and weight. He is 10 months and weighs 24 lbs. I have taken this stroller on a lot of walks around the neighborhood (2 miles each time we go), to the mall, to the park, to the theme parks, and to restaurants. It has handled very well. I believe it has its pros and cons but the pros definitely outweighs the cons.
PROS:
1. Extremely lightweight and compact
2. Easy to clean, comfortable and breathable fabric
3. Wider seat, multi position recline, 2 position leg rest
4. Easy to steer, 4 wheel suspension, front wheels can be locked if swivel isn't needed.
5. Generous and easily accessiblebasket for an umbrella stroller (it has zippers so you can get in and out of basket without raising the back of the seat).
6. Easy to fold and unfold but I have not been able to do either one handed
7. Comes standard with cup holder, basket on left handle for cellphone and wallet, head rest, strap covers, UV shade, Rain shield and Boot at listed price. No need to buy separately.
8. The best feature of all is the canopy. It's called a napper canopy that expands to enclose baby and protect from sun (seat should be in complete upright position). It is what I was exactly looking for. Other than the Joovy Kooper, the Twist is the only umbrella stroller that has a generous canopy. Believe me, I've looked! Just think of your baby in a bubble, my son's toes are the only thing showing when I put the canopy all the way down. Maclaren does not have this feature. Maclaren canopies do not provide much shade unless you are facing away from the sun.
9. This one is just icing on the cake - Awesome customer service at the Zooper office.

CONS:
1.There is a little bit of drag on carpeted areas like mall carpet with a 24 lb baby in it. But carpet and area rug at home doesn'tpresent the same problem.
2. Have not been able to fold or unfold one handed, the hinges are still stiff maybe? Then again, I almost never have to push or fold orunfold a stroller one handed unless I need to scratch my nose.
Hope this full account of my Zooper Twist experience helped others who still have questions about the stroller. If you have other questions that are unaddressed I'd be more than happy to help.

If anyone is looking for the Zooper Twist, I just found them on www.costco.com for $120! Not sure how long they'll have this for though. I'm waiting for mine to come in, to do a full review. I'm so excited, I can't wait! I agonized between this one and MacLaren's Quest. In the end I chose this one for the price and the accesories that come with the Zooper. Plus, since it's from Costco, if I don't like it, I can return it to the warehouse.

Yeah, I thinkCostco just added the Twist since June of 2008. I bought mine at CSNBaby.com in the beginning of June at the time Costco only had the Salsa. Also, it looks to me like they are selling the 2007 model. It looks like mine but with very subtle differences. It could also be just the picture. Let us know how you like the Twist. I love mine.

What are the differences between 2007 and 2008? Mine may possibly be made in 2008. The production number is 080611. I took that as possibly the production date? It was shipped directly from the distributor in Oregon. I'm very pleased with my Twist so far. I love having the accessories: footmuff, cupholder, rain cover, sunshade, nice basket underneath. The canopy is large and is able to shield the sun from the baby without the sunshade. I can also unzip part of the canopy to reveal a mesh, for better air circulation for the baby. Plus, I can see her too. The only thing with the stroller is that I do kick the back wheels. Other than that, no complaints so far. The extendable leg rest is nice too. Since the baby is only 7 1/2 months old right now, it's good that her legs can rest comfortably on it.

did yours come with the head support and strap covers?

No, I don't think there's a head support and strap cover. It still looks like the production number is the production date though, since I can't find anything else that would closely resemble the date. Unless you know? Anyways, I like it more each day. I do hope more people will go to the Zooper, rather than the Mac, for its value. Assembly was easy. I haven't needed to open/close one handed, but I think I can close one handed. Steering is very good with this stroller. I don't lock the front wheels since we're just cruising the neighborhood and malls/retail stores.

The Twist I got has the head support and strap cover. Like I said, minor difference but I think it's the same model.

I am glad you like the stroller. I really love mine. I use it everydayand everywhere I go. I still take my Graco Snugriderin case my son falls asleep. I'd hate to wake him up. I was reading some old reviews from 2006 and I have to say thatZooper had made so many improvements forthe 2008 model. Main complaint was "difficult to push when the baby is on" and I have not have a problem with the push/maneuvering of the stroller. Inaccessible basket, Zooper added zippers. Just naming a few improvements.

We went to Gymboree today and I was happy to see that another mom has a Twist. I believe it's new too because she forgot to take the plastic wrapping on the barrels of her stroller.

In my opinion, with the Zooper Twist you get more bang for your buck.
