Normal Pap

posted 13th Feb '09
So for the first time in like...5 years I had a normal pap!   Even when I was pregnant, I had low grade pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. It has even been as scary as high-grade pre-cancer a few years ago. Damn HPV.  I wonder if it has anything to do with giving birth? Now, I don't have to have another pap for a year. What a change from having to go every other month- every 6 months for years and years.

Anyway, thought it was exciting so I had to share. Hopefully it stays like that!

Yay! I had high risk pre-cancerous cells, and had to have part of my cervix removed from it, so I understand how scary those abnormal paps can be. I also had to go from every other month to every six months, etc. So congrats to you!

Still cancer free after 2 years!

I had 1 abnormal pap, and was lucky that it was the only one. HPV isn't related to pregnancy. The problem with it is that you can transfer it back and forth between your SO and yourself without knowing it.

I was wondering if giving birth somehow cleared away abnormal cells because just a few months prior I had an abnormal pap but they didn't do anything because it was low grade and I was prego. They are all of a sudden gone.

Hmmm I don't know. I do know that sometimes things can just clear up on their own. That was my case, but they can always come back.

Yay! It really sucks having to go that often, I'd get to where "ok, if this next one is clear, then we can put you back on annuals." Go figure, the next is bad and I'd be back to every other month again. Did you have to do that too?

And congrats to you too!

Yeah I had to do that. It was a very scary time.
