The assignment

ASSIGNMENT NUMBER 2

This one is left up to your creativeness! Here are 4 pictures, you can use one, two, all together....totally up to you. Just have fun!

ONE rule though...NO ACTIONS....that's cheating lol.

When you drop off your assignment give a little explanation of what you did.

Pictures are mine that I took except the last one which I grabbed off deviant art.com

my finished product (i'm not sure how to add a shadow for him....)

I picked this picture to use

and this picture of my dog (I took a picture of him last winter inthe snow...and apparently caught him peeing, lol)

I use gimp, I opened the dog picture, went to layer>transparency and added an alpha channel and erased the background then saved it as a PNG file (supports trasnparency. then used the flip tool to make him face the other way

then opened the picture of the hydrant
went to file, open as layers and opened my dogs picture on top of the hydrant picture, then used the scale, rotate and move tools to move him where I wanted.
went to dialogue to see the layers, unselected the hyddrant and adjusted the brightness and contrast of my dog to make it look more "real"

then merged the layer, selected a pale yellow color to paint, and selected "soft light"

(I just learned how to open as layers today too!)

Here's mine. I chose to use pic #2. I decided just to do something simple because the pic was already so good.

I did it 2 ways.

For the first one, I duplicated the picture twice, then using the rectangular select tool chose an area in the center of the picture on the top layer, and deleted the area in the selection. I then applied a Gaussian blur at 20% to that layer. I then selected the center layer, and colorized it to a shade of blue. I changed the layer mode to hue. I created a new blank transparent 4th layer, and stroked a rectangular area to frame out the area I had previously erased. I then gave the frame a white drop shadow to accentuate it.

For this second one, I did everything above, except I desaturated the blurred layer, and changed the layer mode on the colorized layer to normal.

Here's mine! I chose #4.
What I did was opened a grunge overlay of mine, then changed the blending mode to "Color Burn". Then I added a new Pattern Layer at 100% opacity, but on "Overlay". Then I added the "Peacefulness" text, duplicated that layer, flipped it vertically and added a "Ripple Filter" to it, along with changing the blending mode to "Vivid Light".

Here's the link to the bigger one: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a37/taradan/BG%20Stuff/Peaceful.jpg

Picture #4 (Using PaintShop) - nothing fancy- but am attempting to make this look a wee bit like a painting without using an action to do it for me. =-)

Unsharp mask at 60%
Increased hue and saturation
Messed with curves
Copied background as new layer
New layer --->
Texture Effects - Soft Plastic
Blend Mode- Luminance
Opacity at 55%

Thanks guys! I appreciate it! I just recently learned what a layer was, what a blending mode was and that they even did anything and then there is the opacity. hehe I'm a nerd!
