Leaving 3mo w/ Grandma **QUESTION**

posted 11th Feb '09
I'm not really worriedd about anything, except how much milk I need to pump so hubby and I can have our first alone day since Cameron was born. So far I have about 18ounces pumped and in the freezer, but I'm not sure how much he eats normally because I always pump right after he eats.

So I guess my question is, how much would a normal 3mo eat at each feeding(nursing) session?

I would say anywhere from 3-4 ounces to maybe 6 ounces. How long are you planning to be away?? Gosh pumping is so stressful sometimes! Ha....

How much are you getting when you pump each time?

How many hours will he be gone for?
My 3 month olds eat different amounts depending on the time of day, etc. BUT they usually eat between 4 and 6 onces at a feeding about every 3 hours of so. HOWEVER, these past couple of days they have been going through a growth spurt and eating more often. I would try to pump as much as possible. Its better to have an over abundance. If worse comes to worse could you just pump some and bring more to them if you had to?

Good luck with your alone time, you def. deserve it!

Well if I pump first thing in the morning after he has had his first feeding (and the ladies are very very full) I usually pump 2-3ozs per side, but if it's during the day I normally get 2-3ozs combined after he is done. I'm not sure how long I want to leave him, hubby and I are just planning our stay-at-home valentines day, and my parents are taking care of our little oops from last valentines day...

so in total you are getting about 4-6 ounces each time? I imagine that is probably more than enough for the little opps. Just send maybe 1 or 2 extra bottles for the "just in case" senerio.

Good for you guys for having an alone day!! My MIL is babysitting on Valentines for the first time and I am NOT looking forward to it. I have held out for 9 months though so I guess it is time for me to suck it up and let her watch my son. She is already saying things like "We are going to stay up all night, I dont care what mommy and daddy say"

And she wonders why I have never asked her to babysit?!?!?! Uggghhhhhh MIL's!!!

LOL!!! Yeah, I was going to leave him w/ my MIL for a few hours a couple of weekends ago, but I chickened out and used an excuse of "I wasn't able to pump enough." to get out of it, but she was pretty pissed, lol. Oh well! I trust my mom a lot more because she actuallyrespects what I do with my baby.

As for your MIL tell her that if she doesn't follow your wishes, you'll never let her watch him again. There are other alternatives to grand-parental babysitting...

I think she knows this is sort of a "test" for her. If she doesnt do what we say she will not be asked to babysit anymore. Have you ever seen the show "Everybody loves Ramond"? She TOTALLY reminds me of the grandmother.

I agree with the rest. My little girl when she was 3 mo's usually took about 4 ounces every 3 to 4 hours. So keep that in mind for when you head out. Also, what are your feelings with supplemental formula?

We were terrified of nipple confusion and any kind of reactions with formula but it worked wonders for the days when we had to leave baby with the in-laws. We would pump what we could and have some bottles for the 'just-in-case' moments where she was massively hungry.

Hope you have a great V-Day!
