re: Febrile Seizures (occure in 1/20 children under 6!)

i just saw this link on your profile..my son has has 2 febrile seizure..one at 18 months..he seemed perfectly fine..and the fever was so low it could only be detected rectally..no other symptoms of sickness..when i took him to the ER they ran every test possible except i wouldn't let them do the spinal (they wanted to check for meningitis)..
the second time he was 3..and he had bronchitis/early pheumonia..he complained he didn't feel good, i took his temp it was around 101. gave him tylenol immediatly and was holding him when i tooked down and he was uncontious..so i put him in the car and drove the few blocks to the hospital..which i'm glad i did because he had no symptoms that made it obvious he was that sick..just a slight runny nose and low grade fever.
it hasn't happened again thank god and i pray he's grown out of it..i read in MOST cases they outgrow it by age 5..(he's 5 in nov)
but i also read that if one child has them that the other sibling are more prone to them so i'll be watching lucas like a hawk..and i plan on taking his fever's and any sickness very seriously..my dr told me that at the first sign of fever to go ahead and give tylenol just to be safe..it's the scariest thing in the world..i felt terrified he'd never come out of it..the drs act like its all so common and thank God that usually they aren't that serious but at the time it feels like the end of the world!!

Ugh i read all that stuff you said as well and it scares the shit out of me!! I know they say it's "Normal"   But it will never be normal to me!!!

I don't hardly remember them
I only remember before it happened and after but not during. I had one in walmart one time...my dad told me about that one. One day I also remember being at the carnival and being flustered all day and next thing I remember is being woken up in bed saying "honey, you just had a seizure"

And they said they were Febrile seizures?? I haven't heard of them happening so often like that =/
I'm so scared my oldest will have another one--or my youngest =/
It was so scary especially when i had no clue what was going on------and i was home alone with the boys at the time =(

Yeah I went through testing and such too.
They only occurred when my fever would spike
then I would collapse.

Ugh that must have SUCKED for your parents =( I freak out now--even if the boys feel warm........

I took trace to the ER a few months ago---and his fever was 103!!!! i was FLIPPING OUT!

Awww =( I'm sorry mama! I know how scary it can be! Thank GOD my son hasn't had one since last year! But i know i will get really nervous around the same time in the beg. of Feb when he had one last year
