Quoting ♥sheilalynn♥: Febrile seizures are full-body convulsions caused by high fevers (febrile means "feverish"). They affect ... [snip!] ... http://kidshealth.org/parent/general/sick/febrile.html (Can this be stickied so more parents can be aware of this please??)My son was diagnosed with febrile seizures and i was told he will have them or can have them every time his fever spikes. Something we have to watch but he has only had the one seizure.

Quoting ♥sheilalynn♥: My oldest had one a few days ago---and i agree it was the most scariest thing ever (so far)I grew up watching my brother have seizures, he has epilepsy. So I was freaked out when I seen my 18 month old having a seizure. But because of my previous experience with my brother I knew exactly what to do. I called 911 and knew exactly the questions they would ask.

Quoting ♥sheilalynn♥: No i dont think he knows what the hell happend............He was scared when he woke up in the hospital...but ... [snip!] ... he isn't acting like himself today =( And he wants to sleep---this is reminding me of wednesday! When he had the seizure! That was my son, he was so lathargic(sp?) and didn't even want to wake up when I changed his diaper. I knew he felt hot but I had taken him to the childrens hospital ER that morning and they said he had an ear infection and gave us antibiotics. Tylonol never worked for my kids so they loaded him with motrin and waited til his temp went down and sent us home. At home I pulled out the couch bed in the livingroom and laid with him my SO had to go to work and I didn't want to bother him sleeping, He got up for work and said babe he still looks sick and I reassured him that he will look sick for a while. This was at 7am. We slept all morning until about 11 and I woke up and said I need to change him and wake him up to take medicine and see if he will at least drink juice. Well he wouldn't wake up when I tried he just opened his eyes and looked at me and laid back to sleep so I snuck medicine in him and called his Peds Dr. while i was waiting for a call back is when he had his seizure and I called 911. Dr. called while the abulance was ariving I told her what happened she said she would meet us at the hospital. She was there by the time we got there. He was scared and crying they gave him IV fluids and rans test found out he had influenza A. Which they told me that if only at the childrens hospital that morning they would have done all the tests they are supposed to do he never would of had a seizure because the medications he needed would have prevented a high fever.

Quoting ducky: *Before I start, I am currently waiting for the doctor to call me back* I took Ben to the doctor this ... [snip!] ... extremely worried, but if she's checked him over, even not knowing about the possible seizures, should he be fine? Thanks!!My older son had something simalier(sp?) when he was sick and had a high fever. I called the dr right away because epilepsy runs in my family. The dr had us come in and she said just like when us as adults have a fever and say we drink something cold we get the chills and our body shakes for a lil bit the same thing happens to kids. and it sounds like thats what happened with your son because you said you took his pj's off. besides when he has medicine and it makes the fever go away and when it starts to come back his body gets a shock. So she said to just watch him and it has never happened again!
