Thank you luckily we have it controlled with medicine right now it sucks cause he has to take three different kinds just to control it but he does have some when he is stressed or sick or if he sees flashing lights but we get through it day by day.

BUT they found out he had a UTI and the fever just rose so fast the seizure happend =(

I have never been more scared in my life =(

MY son had his first Febrile Seizure when he was 10 months old. He had 3 more since then. They did an EEG and said his brain is normal. Also told me he'd outgrow this by the time he is 7! He's 4 now and hasn't had one in a year and a half..so im hoping it's all done and over with. His started when he had a slight fever of 99.5...within 30minutes during a nap it spiked to 105. I did take him to the hospital. They say not to take them to the hosiptal just because of a seizure but the seizure is cause by a dangerously HIGH fever. Even if a child doesn't have a seizure you should take them for having a dangerously high fever, that in itself can cause brain damage.

*Before I start, I am currently waiting for the doctor to call me back*
I took Ben to the doctor this morning for his fever. Thursday morning he woke up around 4am with a high fever. His body was red and he was very hot. By 5am, he seemed okay. I gave him Tylenol. All day his fever was under control, I only gave him some at 4am and 8am. He was a little "off" though, so I knew he wasn't feeling good. I gave him more tylenol before bed lastnight, and he woke up at 1:30am, even hotter than the night before. I took his temp, but at 101.3 he fought the thermometer out of my hand. I knew it was a high fever. I took off his jammies, gave him some water and tylenol, and he slept on the couch with me.
Anyways, when I went to the doctor's, she said he seemed okay, but she wouldn't know what was wrong until the fever breaks...which is when the symptoms will show up. So basically I'm to watch him after the fever goes away.
Well, I am now panicking because I left out a very important bit of info. It never even occured to me until I got home, came here, and saw this thread.
Last night AND Thursday morning, while Ben was lying on the couch, he did this weird thing, then started crying. The best way to explain it is: you know when you get a shiver down your spine and your body shakes....multiply that a few times, and when you have that "falling" dream and your body kind of jumps and your arms fly out...add that in too. That's what he did. It lasted maybe 4 or 5 seconds, and he screamed during and after. Was that a seizure??? It happened twice!! I'm very scared and mad at myself for not thinking to tell the doctor. I just thought since he was almost asleep, he either got a chill from the fever, or he had the falling dream. I've read that having more than one with the same illnes is not good. Should I be worried now that it's over and the doctor has already checked him? She checked his ears, throat, lymph nodes, checked for rashes, listened to his lungs.
I'm just extremely worried, but if she's checked him over, even not knowing about the possible seizures, should he be fine?
Thanks!!

It is very possible that it could have been a very short and mild seizure. My son had on major febrile seizure and since then sometimes when he runs a high fever he'll have something very similar to what you're describing.
Don't beat yourself up over it. There is nothing the doctor could do about it now anyway. It sounds like you did everything right to keep the fever down and away. Have you tried using Motrin for his fever? I like to alternate every 2 hours with Tylenol and Motrin. Motrin has always seemed to work a little better for fevers though. I hope he gets to feeling better right away.

Sorry I skipped this part. But yes, even if he did have a seizure there are no lasting side effects so if she checked him and said everything is fine then don't worry he'll be fine.

Okay, thanks. I sent hubby out lastnight to get some more tylenol just incase, but he came home with Tempra instead. Ben absolutely hates it. He likes the grape dye-free Tylenol, so I've been alternating the tylenol and tempra. He seems fine through the day, only a slight fever, but gets so hot through the night.
Still waiting for the doctor to call...she's on lunch...but after reading your post, maybe I'll take a deep breath and calm down!! I wasn't sure if there would be a reason to go back and get tests done.

I know!! Even though I just assumed it was a dream or a shiver, it terrified me because of his scream. I'm still mad at myself. I've beenterrified of fevers since I had my 1st child 14 years agobecause of the risk of seizures. How could I not think that's what it was?
Anyways, thank you ladies!! I'm going to breathe a little easier now.
