re: Febrile Seizures (occure in 1/20 children under 6!)

I do think it may be somewhathereditary. I know I had one when I was 4 years old and my oldest son had one when he was 18 months. It was the scariest night of my life.   He ended up having a total of 5 before his temperature went down. I thought there was going to be some type of permanent damage but there wasn't. He hasn't had another once since... hopefully he never will.

Humm i never had any when i was little.....i dont think my hubby did either. It sure as hell was scary though =(

That happened to my younger brother when he was a baby... My mother said it was one of the scariest things to ever happen.

It was the scariest thing ever! And the fact that i knew nothing about it made it worse!! Of course i'm not ever going to be prepared for it to happen--god forbid it does happen ever again---but i have to tell as many people as i can so they have some knowledge of it.

My brother out of the 7 kids my mom had was the only one that had one. She was scared out of her mind when it happened to him. It only happened once to him.

Alot of people are saying it only happend once but i cant help but fear that it will happen again =( I pray to god it doesnt ever happen again =(

I'm so terrified now......when he starts acting weird or anything....it really sucks!

OMG reading this reminds me of the most terrible and frightening morning of my life...

Flashback: January 2006 early morning 6.30ish I find my firstborn Braeden back then 18 months old in convulsions and unresponsive in his crib I went frantic immediately and my now ex called the ambulance right away

We had let Braeden go to sleep w a dose of Tylenol late the night before the seizure and had no clue it "spiked" in the night...

He was in the seizure 45+ mins (by the time they got to stop it at the hosp) and neither of us had a clue what it was til we were at the hospital and they explained... Man I thought I died a thousand deaths in the time of waiting for them to tell me he was OK. He did get air evaced to St. Louis Childrens tho too for a few days of observation and to make sure he was gonna be ok and not have any more...

Since this incident I never never go to sleep for more than 1-2 hours w an alarm set to wake me in an interval to check on my babies and make sure their fevers wont ever rise w o my eye on it and intervention...

Omg that is so sad =( I freak out any time one of the boys is hot now---it only happend once??
Wow that is a LONG time to be in a seizure =(

My oldest had one when he was three months old (he's seven now) we were asleep on the couch and he was laying on my chest and I woke up to him shaking so we rushed him to the er and he had a high temp so they took him to our childrens hospital and done testing only to find out that what his seizure was from was he has epilepsy and it is alot worse when his fevers are highso I know all to well what you ladies went through unfournately(sp?) I have to go through it each and every day. Stay strong ladies and It will be ok.
