re: Febrile Seizures (occure in 1/20 children under 6!)

Obviously her having a seizure is the worst possible thing but knowing she had a fever and just "waiting" to see if she was going to take one for 3 days......i'm completely exhausted!

well they say once they have even 1 that it's more likely they will have more =(
Really up until they are 6 they can have them....
i didn't sleep good for over a month when my son had his. I was too scared that he would have one in his sleep and possibly die or something.
But yeah...thankfully he hasn't had another.
They also said that since he had one his little brother could have one too =/

Her grandfather has epilepsy (?) = (

she only has had 2 and they were call caused by a fever..... *fingers crossed*

Oh yeah--hopefully she doesn't have that--i don't think so if hers were caused by fever. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too!

I was told they usually will have the seizure the first 24 hours of a fever. my LO has had 2 febrile seizures in 2 months and both within 24 hours of him getting a fever ): the first one was really long about 5 mins and the second was only lasted a couple seconds..so I am hoping that means he is growing out of them? hopefully...

Her first lasted almost 10 minutes (she went limp) her 2nd lasted almost 15min (it was in her sleep and she was convulsing)....

Has anyone ever been told that even if you do give them motrin/tylenol when the fever hits if they're going to have a seizure they will have the seizure regardless? My doctor told me this?!?! Now with the first one I did give her tylenol 1/2 before she had it (she didn't have a fever but she wasn't acting right) the 2nd it just hit her....

awww that is a long time for a seizure...I'm sorry mama...his pedi said they have done studies of giving kids tylenol during a fever with a history of febrile seizures & they still have them   both times we were giving my LO tylenol/motrin & he still had them...he's 16 months and only had 2 fevers his whole life & both times had a seizure....how old was your LO when she had her first one?

I agree! My son had 3 when he was 18 mo old.. I was always scaredw hen he got sick since that he would have another, but thankfully hasn't.. he's 6 now.. dr. said he would grow out of it and he did.
