Hi, I was born with one kidney smaller then another, I'm not even sure it functions correctly or at all, my mother mentioned I had only kidney, but I really thought she was joking over a the course of a 29 years, until I had my first UTI, and I had an US and it came back with an image with 1 kidney less than half the size of my other. I have a question, I'm contemplating having a kid eventually and not sure how my body would handle it with only 1 kidney, does any one have any advice?

I think it would be fine. Lucky Lady 13 has only one and she is currently pregnant. Maybe you could ask her for advice

That was one of those things I had to google and hold my breath for.

You just make sure you are overly anal with them and remind them of the situation. I just drink tons of water and drink cranberry juice on a regular basis. I've had no probs with UTIs this pregnancy or anything. I've actually had more problems with my iron levels than anything else.

Last week (Jan 30th) I made sure to tell my Doctor to write ALL OVER MY CHART I have one kidney and they need to watch for kidney failure. I go to a military hospital but the civilian hospitals in the area (at least the ERs) always forget I have a kidney,and prescribe me the wrong meds,etc.

That's the other thing...ALWAYS,ALWAYS,ALWAYS ask if anything anyone prescribes you affects your kidneys. If the medicine shouldn't be recommended for someone with kidney disease I avoid it (such as Yaz birth control.)

But make sure you drink water,drink cranberry juice,and never hold your pee in...and you can lead a completely functional life.

Hi here. So I am wondering if the writer of this post is able to give an update on the situation of her lil baby? Im asking because I just got back from my doctor who has told me that I have to go in for another ultrasound ( I am 22 weeks) because it looks like one of my babes kidnys is smaller thant the other, and the Dr. wants to check size nd development. NATURALLY, I am freaking out and am ALSO wondering if anyone knows if this can be related to any other fetal abnormalities? My next ultrasound is in 2 weeks, which meeans I have 2 whle weeks to worry and make mountains out of molehills.

i had a US today and found out my baby's right kidney is smaller then his left one. Doctor told me its nothing to worry about but I am worried.
